at the min i work 4.30 hrs a day = 3.30 delivery ,15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief so that leaves me with 15 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up

However you break it down, you do not have enough hours in the day to complete.fishtank wrote:How that actually should read is i work 4.30hrs a day =15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief roughly 30 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up leaves me 3.15 on delivery.montriff wrote:at the min i work 4.30 hrs a day = 3.30 delivery ,15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief so that leaves me with 15 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up![]()

Maybe we should move away from the idea of completing altogether.realitybites wrote:

If Royal Mail are intent on making it almost impossible why are we continuing our obsession with it?

Clash of cultures possibly. Posties who meet and deal with the same people daily don't want to let them down. This is a strength that Managers at different levels see as a weakness and exploit it as much as they can.fishtank wrote:Maybe we should move away from the idea of completing altogether.realitybites wrote:

It may be a moral strength Teebs but it is increasingly a practical disaster.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:This is a strength that Managers at different levels see as a weakness and exploit it as much as they can.
Something needs to change and i doubt very much it will be Royal Mail.
We could,i suppose just come in earlier, skip our meal relief and use our cars to complete.
Then at least we wouldn't be letting our customers down...just ourselves and everyone who follows us into this job.

Or someone else should be doing your redirections etc, turning for your packets and starting to tie up for you.montriff wrote:at the min i work 4.30 hrs a day = 3.30 delivery ,15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief so that leaves me with 15 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Would it not be better that he was doing them and his contract reflected that rather than it being absorbed into the IWT ether?clashcityrocker wrote:Or someone else should be doing your redirections etc, turning for your packets and starting to tie up for you.montriff wrote:at the min i work 4.30 hrs a day = 3.30 delivery ,15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief so that leaves me with 15 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up

That would surely depend on the current level of f/t staff and the need to protect f/t employment.
But basically - yes.

I think if contracts reflected the work being done (post rev) a 50 hour contract would replace the current 40.fishtank wrote:Would it not be better that he was doing them and his contract reflected that rather than it being absorbed into the IWT ether?clashcityrocker wrote:Or someone else should be doing your redirections etc, turning for your packets and starting to tie up for you.montriff wrote:at the min i work 4.30 hrs a day = 3.30 delivery ,15 to get there (should be 10 mins to pouch off) 20 mins meal relief so that leaves me with 15 mins to do redirections ,packets and bundle up

Re: How long to tie up a walk, pre and post revision?
So if contracts no longer reflect the work being done shouldn't we make sure that the work being done better reflects our contract rather than jumping through hoops, skipping breaks, starting early and generally making ourselves miserable.realitybites wrote: I think if contracts reflected the work being done (post rev) a 50 hour contract would replace the current 40.
What everybody will have to understand quickly is that a revision based on the lowest model week means that these walks are designed to be achievable only during....the lowest model week.
So...for the majority of the year you will be looking at a delivery that can only be done by cutting corners, skipping breaks, starting early and generally making yourself miserable....... or extending your working week.
So...as i said earlier....Maybe we should move away from the idea of completing altogether.

Re: How long to tie up a walk, pre and post revision?
How the walks were ever agreed based on a week taken at one of the easiest times of year is beyond me. Did they not get a yearly forecast and average the traffic that way. What about testing all posties and then average out the speed of a postie against an average walk with average workload and THEN decide what a fair workload would be.fishtank wrote:So if contracts no longer reflect the work being done shouldn't we make sure that the work being done better reflects our contract rather than jumping through hoops, skipping breaks, starting early and generally making ourselves miserable.realitybites wrote: I think if contracts reflected the work being done (post rev) a 50 hour contract would replace the current 40.

And...............................
Is 25 mins STILL not enough time to tie up, bag up weigh and out.

Re: How long to tie up a walk, pre and post revision?
Under the IWT they give you a figure to complete the indoor part of the delivery.
Whether 25 minutes is enough would depend on how many bags/how many redirections/how many dead letters.
You no longer have to weigh every bag and record the weight but you do need to ensure bags are not overweight.
Under the soon to be defunct (?) capacity plan we got 30 minutes to tie down etc.
For some it was plenty, for others a struggle.

Re: How long to tie up a walk, pre and post revision?
It's probably the most important part...it's the Royal Mail Conduct Code.Sippin40oz wrote:

That part is from the section on Mail Integrity.
