Why would someone who can pass the one minute test, not be able to meet the "standard" set by the IWT?
Because the IWT does not set a standard to be adhered to, its sets a parameter so that the correct resources can be applied in an efficient manner. Problem is as with most computer aided tools is that if the data is corrupt then the results are skewed and the system will crash. SISO
So yet AGAIN we have the situaition where the rules are being flouted by management. My linos do what the dom says, the dom does what the adsm says, she does as she is told - etc - who the f**k is the bad boy running this company ultimatley - satan?

My manager has been told that this is a CWU agreed tool - and that he is to use it to identify savings (as in slackers).
It is knocking so much off peoples prep rate that i doubt very much it is achievable, i agree that some of it is slacking, tea making, fag break etc, but nowehere near all of it.

But if i and my manager are to use this as a basis for the revision then there really isnt any point in doing the revision as it is doomed to failure.

I really dont know how much more of this bullshit i can take!

bull s**t is the word mate i have tested myself to see how the i.w.t prep rates work you get tested on about 12 items prep a minute (not agreed) .
based on the amount of items i had that day georoute gave me 1 hour 25 mins ;liar to do the following
1.......1/6 door to door (today i had 1 normaly 4-5) :so there
2.......prep my whole delivery
3.......do dead letters
4.......do redirections
5.......collect specials from locker
6.......check and turn packets
7.......tie up bundles
8.......put into bags /check weight and break down if to heavy
9.......record all weights
10.....load on to trolley and make way downstairs

i did a prep speed of 17 items a minute never left frame apart from picking up mail and never spoke to anybody ive done this round for 10 years and still took me over there time .walk sequence mail time deducted (15 mins) still struggled can see harrasement cases every day. :arrrghhh

Our rep has come in today and said the iwt figures are agreed and we need to adhere to them.

This is getting serious now, one says one thing, one says another.

Unless he/she or ADR has signed local agreement it is not agreed.
IWT is NOT an Individual Performance Measurement.
Now you can just accept it or you get your ADR and Div Rep involved, if that doesnt work IT IS SERIOUS.
And God help your office because if that goes ANYTHING goes.

The IWT is agreed for the purpose of duty/revision planning. Perhaps that is what your rep means?

If you struggle on a duty post revision can not be used by mangemnet to claim you are not up to standard, the manager should investigate why you are not managing and then take appropiate action.

If the rep feels the figures from IWT are unrealistic, then he /she should seek alterations.

If the revsion makes it to the ballot stage and the mbrs feel its not realistic then they need to bloddy well make sure they vote NO!!

If it gets a yes vote, then work hard and properley and prove the revision to be flawed.

the values in the IWT have been agreed in the interim - The CWU are yet to conclude tests in a live environment - There is no agreement on throughputs.
I don't get this, why is it being used in revisions then?
Why has the testing in a live enviroment not taken place yet???
Is that also true of pegasus???

What everyone is forgetting is that the walks/preps speeds are only achievable when traffic is at model week levels. The minute it goes above that you are expected to 'flex up'. With all the revisions now happening RM will not make adjustments or take work off people to enable them to get back on time or heaven forbid 'early' because RM's mantra of work all hours paid for and flex up will be a constant refrain until such time as people start to 'grow a pair' or we go back out on the gate. The worry is that this is endorsed by our glorious leaders. Anyone who wants to stand against this new regime will be stood alone. So guys keep on flexing up or cut off and what you leave today might get delivered tomorrow. Or it might not and scarily no one will notice or care. Next step why do RM need to deliver every day they could do it every other day snd no-one would be any worse off apart from the 50,000 posties who would politely be asked to leave the business. The futures bright the future is 'orange' ......

Good point JR

Flex up if I recall as not mentioned in BT2010 :hmmmm

Ok, there will allways be heavy days now and again and thats part and parcel of normal mail level fluctuations which we all accept, but model week is wide open to problems as there is no national level agreement on what the model week should be. All local reps have is guidelines saying dont set it too high and dont set it too low, which is blindingly obvious. As the HQ Postal team couldnt reach agreement with RML they devolved the issue to local reps and local managers

And there's the rub - because it is basically guesswork as to what the correct traffic levels are to achieve a stable revision. I suspect that there has been an under estimation and that has left many offices with revision failure, certainly that appears to be the case in our revision.............now comes the problem of re-evaluating the correct levels with the attendant problem of rectifying the mistake. So despite what the CWU say I would err on the side of over estimation than under estimation because that is going to be easier to put right.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
