Delivery Duty Design principles

Post by Geezer »

Dear All

I sent a version of Delivery Duty Design principles to Tessa Fayers which was dated Feb. 2010 anticipating that it was out of date superseded by the national agreement, which she confirmed.

She has subsequently sent me the attached as the version they are using and has stated that it was included in the CD sent to Divisional reps following annual conference. The document is not agreed with the CWU and if you pick up any conflicts with the national agreement could you send them to the Outdoor dept so that they can be picked up with Royal Mail. However as stated previously and in the action plan matrix v1 it is the agreement that holds the field and not guidelines. An updated action plan matrix will be issued next week.

This has been removed in the new doc....
Studies have proven that if energy expenditure is too great during the working day long-term health effects may occur. If, over a longer period of time, the recuperation during a 24 hour period is not taken this may impact on health. The effects may include a susceptibility to mental disorders such as depression, irritability, a lack of ability to cope with stress and a reduced level of immunity making people liable to infection. Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, insomnia, irregular heartbeat, sweating fits, loss of appetite, digestive troubles and general malaise. Similarly if the appropriate equipment is not used or weight standards complied with there is an increased risk of musculoskeletal (back, shoulder, knees) injury or illness

This....
Pouching off is no longer permitted once new delivery methods have been implemented and all undelivered items are expected to be made available for same day customer collection at the agreed enquiry office location
Has been replaced with.....
All undelivered items are expected to be made available for same day customer collection at the agreed enquiry office location. Pouching off arrangements may remain where it is practical and efficient to do so but they should not compromise this principle.

And these have been added.....
Shorter Working Week
A shorter working week (reduced by one hour per week to 39 hours) for full time staff will be phased in line with walk sequencing revisions. Part-time employees will benefit through an increased hourly rate.

Door to Door
Following the Business Transformation Agreement between Royal Mail and CWU delivery duties should be planned to include Door to Door workload (time to prep and deliver) on the basis of spreading it across six days a week. Delivery employees will have the ability to manage the delivery of the items themselves on the proviso that all items are delivered and the delivery specification is not affected. Further guidance is available on planning for Door to Door in Door to Door Into Workload.

But many callers offices shut at lunchtime such as mine closing at 1pm weekdays and 12pm Saturdays . Our town in the largest in the County and is very highly populated due to good transport links and lots of commuters. Housing growth is set to EXPLODE beyond our wildest dreams. Despite all that RM are happy with the callers office opening times. Same day collection is nothing but pure fantasy.

Geezer, or anyone else for that matter, do you have a copy of the referenced document, 'Delivery Design Planning Principles
and Parameters', I'm sure I've seen a request for it here before but I don't recall it having been posted.

I'm very interested in obtaining all material available for checking the input data in Pegasus.

Unfortunately not that's where I read this statement
Pegasus

Outdoor workload is calculated in Pegasus using the following categories of planning value:
  • Calling Time
  • Travel Speeds
  • Service Speed (moving between delivery points)
  • Ancillary Activity (replenishment and moving between floors)
  • Van activities (collecting/returning mail, preparing/replenishing/stowing light weight trolley/pouch, moving to next parking location)
Further information on planning values is available in ‘Delivery Design Planning Principles and Parameters’.

any chance of an explanation on this

• Indoor duty design should exclude unaddressed mail (D2D) volume as this attracts a separate payment

WHAT SEPERATE PAYMENT???????

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With a 6 hour shared van does someone else do the prepping or something?

Otherwise you have 2 hours to prep a 6 hour delivery. Or more accurately, 1 hour 40 minutes with 20 minutes meal before you leave office. I'd say thats almost impossible..?
