Army recruit’s last weekend at home ruined by postal chaos in Crewe

A SOLDIER who has signed up to serve his country missed his last weekend out with his mates because of the postal chaos in Crewe.

His complaint comes in the week South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce attacked the “appalling level of service” from Royal Mail.

Jamie Hockenhull, 20, begins his training with the Royal Military Police on Monday and should have spent his last Sunday in Civvy Street with pals at the Classic Car Show at Birmingham’s NEC.

But his ticket was posted in Leeds on Tuesday last week still hadn’t arrived yesterday.

Jamie said: “It was my last day out with my mates. Of course I’m disappointed.”

His mum Mary phoned Royal Mail to try to trace the post – but no-one answered.

“I spent Sunday at the gym and going for a run. It’s not what I had in mind,” said Jamie.

Another letter sent special delivery for his mum – supposedly for next day delivery costing £3.77 – took four days to arrive.

On Monday Mary went to the Royal Mail office on Weston Road and picked up more than a dozen letters after demanding her mail.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce has attacked the “management failure” for the “appalling level of service”.

John Dunning said: “We endorse the views of many local businesses about the appalling service being received and its’ effects on their performance.

“We’ve received many complaints via our members and have suffered first-hand ourselves.”

I do feel for this guy and his mates, it could be the last jolly for months before going off to Afghanistan, he could have got e-tickets or just turned up at the gate, but then you wouldn't expect a next day post to take four days

Well the postie on the street has warned the public to expect this type of service in the future.We tried to warn the public and Im afraid its a case of we told you so.
