Bullying and Harassment is endemic in Thames Valley with one DSM just suspended and a few other senior managers looking over their shoulders. Lots of good people of all grades however those at the top have known (or suspected) for a very long time what is going on and are guilty by association. It really does stem from a very senior level ....

Could`nt happen to a nicer bunch you reap what you sow, just think off the decisions you made that had a detrimental
effect on postmen and women. when you become a manager Royal Mail make a hospital appointment for you to have a lobotomy
thus removing any feeling you have for your fellow human being

No in betweens with you is there ? purely THEM and US !!

I have been employed in 5 industries covering rail and manufacturing before joining RM doing pretty much the same type of work and RM was the 1st employer to class me as a manager. This is simply because of the grading and pay structure, I have never managed anyone and doubt I ever will (VR allowing). There are countless support staff who are classed as managers within RM who would not be so pigeon holed anywhere else ... even frontline managers would normally be termed as supervisors, charge hands or team leaders.

As far as support staff undertaking postal duties during the IA most had no option. There was no choice ... and as the CMA left it until 2 weeks before the dispute ended to issue guidelines to their members the horse had already bolted. In the same situation most people who post here would do exactly the same despite what they post to the contrary ... talk is cheap !!

I work indoors, so things may be different. But in my experience, the Managers that we deal with every day (Shift Managers (presumably equivilent to DOMs), Line Managers, etc.), are basically caught in the middle. With emense pressure from above, to achieve the impossible. And pressure from Posties like us, because we can't achieve what they want of us (yes I know it's far worse in Deliveries, but at this rate, we'll catch up with you soon!).

I've seen several good men and women go into Management. And with VERY few exceptions, have gone back to being OPGs, or cracked under the pressure, and started taking it out on us (sadly, it's just Human Nature). I've also seen several of them have serious problems with Stress, and even Depression. Even to the point of Nervous Breakdowns!

I wouldn't wish what they have to put up with, on my worst enemy! And sadly, because of what they go through, they turn nasty, which results in bad, and sometimes, completely dispicable treatment of us. I know there's a reason for them to behave that way. And I pity them, for what they go through. But it's NOT and excuse. What's needed, is a complete change of attitude from the middle and higher level Management. Not least, in their recruitment policy. There's far too many go into those positions, without ever working as an OPG. Which means that they never fully understand what's involved in doing the job. And more importantly, what is actually possible. :hmmmm

Being too specific will reveal my identity (shock horror) which for clear reasons (I like to be open and honest here) could leave me open to B&H. Lets just say that my background is in Mail Centre Planning until 3 years ago in London.

Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

What, you need to see a letter to remind you that you're in a union and the rule of thumb for unions is to not cross each others picket lines?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We had loads in during 2007 and for 5 months during 2009 and none of them looked like they were dragged in kicking and screaming as they munched the free sandwiches and drunk the free coffee.
And quite a few were keen to mention how much they were getting for busting our strike.
Not all of them were tossers...but enough. :cuppa

But all the same applies to CWU members just as CMA ,they were all tossers cos they couldn't work out where their true interests lay
How many Dom's/linos determine their year end resourcing?

I have no idea either if he is genuine, let's wait and see.

I agree, leave the thread, everyone deserves to be heard, if you don't like it don't read it. I feel sorry for Managers, they are pressured far more than we could realise, from their Managers and those that they manage.
