I'm the customer quoted in Chapel Allerton waiting for a camera. I'm not actually in Chapel Allerton, but close by. Didn't want to give the reporter my actual area as I didn't want to get my postman into trouble.
I don't understand, as the new system clearly isn't working, why they aren't going back to the old one that worked!
With Christmas coming up, why not use the old system until January and then perhaps start experimenting with new deliveries.
It's ridiculous how management, with no idea of the reality of how deliveries work, can sit in an office and decide the most efficient way to do deliveries! They obviously have no idea of the logistics involved.
I find in all businesses those 'higher up' have an assumed sense of better understanding, that they can advise those underneath them how better to do their job. From what I gather no one who's 'on the ground' was asked by the management if they thought the new system would work.
It sucks I haven't got my packages, but I feel most sorry for all the staff in the sorting offices, and postmen on their rounds who have to deal with managements f**k-ups
Hi Lucaj, i work down at sheepscar and my advice to you is shop on the high street this xmas cos packets are piling up and will get a hell of a lot worse in the next few weeks. The managers want us to deliver pizza leaflets ahead of packets!!!
Really!? The management sound like jokers, good luck with christmas
I was considering going to sheepscar tomorrow morning to see if they'll let me collect my mail, can you tell me, is there any point or will I get turned away?
Thanks

If you just turned up unannounced, you probably would be turned away. Not least, because if the backlog is anywhere near as bad as we've heard. Your mail will still be somewhere in a pile of unsorted mail. So they won't have it available to give to you. You could register for the "Mail Collect" service: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump ... d=48100695" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; But then youd have to collect your own mail for a minimum of 4 weeks (the minimum contract perod). But I doubt that, that would help much anyway. Because they won't neccessarily have enough room to sort the packets, that they've "put to one side", until the backlog starts to clear.

I'm really sorry I can't be of more help. To be honest, this type of situation is a cause for considerable embarrasment for many of us. We saw it coming, and tried to fight it in 2007 and a year ago. But we failed. Providing a good service is something which is very important to us. But in the areas where these revisions have gone ahead already. Its not yet possible to achieve it. Hopefully, the backlash from failures such as these. Will lead to at last a partial rethink by higher level Management. So that we can have the neccessary resources to provide the service you deserve.

What has made it worse of course is the inability to leave parcels with neighbours or relatively safe places as we did in the past.............all due to postcomm. That has certainly left us, not with a mountain of undelivered parcels but a mountain of uncollected parcels. The callers office is bulging at the seams and the staff are unable to cope. There is a need to reorganise and to input sufficient manpower to cope with demand. Royal Mail have invested in delivery methods with vehicles, HCTs and PDAs but have failed to recognise that the increase in packets and parcels needs to be addressed urgently; we need a modern system to deal with undelivered packets.

Citylink and Parcelforce both leave parcels in a safe place, and stick a note through the door telling you where it is, it's a shame royal mail can't, would be better for the customers as well as the postmen

Second day in at Barrow-in-Furness and me and my van buddy did the 2 rounds today (Tuesday )and everything went really well , but we still had to book 1 hours overtime each . This is with no d2d's , and for who knows how long ? we still have another van going out and taking our larger parcels and tracked items . We still have room for a little impovement but I can never see us getting finished on time again . So we will be cutting off or booking overtime , whichever way suits us best .

Well aware of what the competition do L, and so did we, but no more. Our service was the best in the world, we made at times over 800 million a year, which the government took and didn't invest. One competitor uses a computer system to log in undelivered parcels which identifies its location in seconds; our system is hand written and the parcels stored on totally inadequate shelving. The investment has been one sided I'm afraid because RM do not recognise the collection of parcels/packets as a priority....................but who will use RM if the situation doesn't improve?

The management really should begin to listen to the people working for them, sounds like you lot have a good understanding of what would work and what needs to be changed

Leaving parcels in a safe place or with neighbours is allowed, isn't it dvbuk ? The Trackback parcels have this facility on the pda, and it's also written on the address label. It's what we do at our place

Tracked items which have a specific licence agreement CAN be left as directed BUT only as directed and are NOT insured by RM any loss on a directed location is at the senders risk.

Ordinary parcels and packets can no longer be left, partly due to postcomm and partly as a direction of RM because of the amount claimed in "lost" packages and that postcomm require RM to tighten procedures...........resulting in what we have now.

Same in our office, walks left in, staff cutting off, staff bringing loads back. Walks far too long yet geo route says they are right, liners don't seem to be interested. At the end of the day, it's not the staff's problem. What a pantomime. The walks should have been left alone, just add the extra packets on them. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.
