Delivery Trolley found...

Post by Stampy »

I see some of our Peterborough South colleagues have ballsed up again.....

http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news ... _1_1619266

A shocked Peterborough resident recovered a Royal Mail delivery trolley he found abandoned at the side of a city road.

Richard Mourton (28), of Oakleigh Drive, Woodston, Peterborough, spotted the trolley as he was driving along Shrewsbury Avenue at around 5.20pm on November 6.

He immediately called the police and agreed to keep the load until a representative from the Royal Mail could recover the items.

Mr Mourton said: “I couldn’t believe it - I was just driving to Tesco and I saw it reflecting off the street light.

“It looks like it had just been left by the side of the road on the path.

“I phoned the police and told them about it and I agreed to look after it until the Royal Mail could pick it up. It was at least a quarter full and it was really heavy but I got it into the house.”

The representative from the Royal Mail recovered the trolley later on that evening.

The Royal Mail has said that not a single letter was reported as missing and it is believed that all of the letters in the trolley were returned to the system.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said they would not be launching an investigation.

She said: “We have had no reports of missing mail. We have a zero tolerance policy towards mail not being delivered, but there is no evidence of that.

“Our records do not show that any letters were not delivered so there is not an investigation pending.”

Mr Mourton added: “The man from the Royal Mail even mentioned that there were letters in there so they definitely know that some letters had been dumped.

“I think they should be doing something about it. You can’t just expect members of the public to call in and look after letters that have been dumped.”

A police spokesman confirmed they had spoken to the Royal Mail about the finding.

He said: “We received a call at 5.20pm that a Royal Mail trolley had been found off Shrewsbury Avenue.

“We alerted Royal Mail and they went to the person who found the trolley’s house to collect it.

“We never attended the scene and we left it to the Royal Mail to recover the trolley. There is no investigation going on at the moment.”

Royal Mail delivers around 80 million items each day and has a strict policy in place if postal workers are found to have purposefully not delivered mail.

Postal workers can be jailed if they are found guilty of dumping letters and presents, although no investigation is pending in this case.

With city residents preparing to send Christmas letters and presents in the mail, the Royal Mail spokesman added: “We are of course preparing to deliver an excellent service to customers this Christmas.”

If anyone is worried that their mail has not been delivered, they should call Royal Mail Customer Care on 08457 740 740 for further advice.

Shoulkd the IB not have investigated this member of the public?
Didn't he know better than to take the mail into his house?

Could've been someone still out delivering and this bloke has come along, phoned the police immediately and taken the trolley home.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Quite a few comments on the papers website including
Hi there, Please let me clarify the quote about it being heavy. It does make me sound a bit of a twit and yes the brakes were off ;) It was misquoted by the paper. I explained to the ET that I took it to my house just round the corner from Shrewsbury Avenue and placed it in my locked garage. It was 17:00 at night when I discovered it so I very much doubt the postman had just nipped off. The mail center is now closed down Welbeck Way and has been for some months. I know the trolley was heavy as I had to lift it into the post office van with the employee who came to collect it around 20:30. You could feel the mail inside the bag underneath. I hope that makes it a bit clearer. I think it is an absolute disgrace that this is just being brushed under the carpet when the mail was blatantly dumped with no regard whatsoever. Richard Mourton

Probably...to be honest it could have been anything from his lunch to his waterproofs.
At the end of the day this guy has no idea what it was and should have kept his opinions...and that is all they were...to himself.
One thing is for sure Royal Mail do not brush these kind of things under the carpet when it becomes public knowledge...IB won't let them... so if they say no mail was delayed then that will be the case.

No-one knows what was in it and no-one knows why it was where it was.
Except of course for those involved and if Royal Mail aren't investigating it's very unlikely that anything was dumped.

If the postie was taken ill it would explain the trolley being there....and it would be improper to discuss his medical condition.
Or he could have had to attend to a domestic emergency, and he couldn't inform the office because no fecker ever answers the phone.

But I am surprised the member of the public who helped LIFT THE TROLLEY into a RM van hasn't gone off sick with a bad back and sued RM......

Isn't it amazing how so many people automatically assume that when something goes wrong it is the fault of RM or it's employees? Could this trolley not have been stolen and then dumped by the thief? Is this a really a newsworthy story?

It's just like BBC Look East which spends hours slating our excellent NHS just because someone whinges. People will look back in not a very few years and realise that they actually had it very good.
