It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Saturday collections
What are saturday collections? We gave up on them years ago. No chance of them ever connecting with wagon to MC which leaves at 1300 so whats the point. The mail arrives later and later and yet they still expect us to get back with collections at the same time

Re: Saturday collections
I suppose you would have to finish your delivery then do your collection. If not your live mail could end up going back to mail centre with collection mail. How do you keep a delivery seperate from collected mail in a cdv van ?

Re: Saturday collections
So,anyone with CDV's and no MC/SA/P-Timers ect to do it,what have you done.
2 possibilities i would thing could happen at my place is,a rota system where each set does a collection on a rota basis,or every set doing part of collections nearby which would cause the 'possibly not enough scanners' problem.

Re: Saturday collections
In our DO we have 5 collections. Before the revision came in Mon - Fri they were done by 10 of us on S.A. [3 nights on and 3 nights off, 3 Hours per night.] Then on Saturday they were done by 5 drivers as part of their Duty. Now after the revision 4 of the evening collections have been made part of 4 partime duties. I say partime but they are thirty odd hours each duty. We still have 5 single manned driving duties 3 of which mostly deliver to firms rural and a few houses. The other 2 does specials large Parcel and bag drops on the areas covered by HTCs. These 5 single manned driving duties do the saturday lunchtime collections as part of their duties. The remaining evening collection is still available to the 10 of us who did the collections before the revision. That works out at 2 nights on and 8 off.

Re: Revision:Saturday collections
I would assume you collect from any post boxes and post offices on your delivery every day. On weekdays this will be a relief collection and on saturdays it will be the final collection. Hence the time is built into the duty everyday. This is how it works for our rurals anyway, we aren't getting P&L because distance from office is not large enough for our town deliveries.

Re: Revision:Saturday collections
We have to take the scanners out on a Saturday (the ones used on SA collections) and scan and collect all boxes on our delivery route.

Re: Revision:Saturday collections
The problem is never going to be how do we collect from all the boxes but how does it connect to MC. In the SW region we discussed sweepers that drove round and collected from all the collectors....Or 1 driver doing dedicated collections but it is work that is not done Mon-Fri so very hard to plan for it. Potentially done by a Sched Attendance but not much hunger for this due to people being able to get 'easy' day off OT midweek due to all offices being run with vacancies. In the end many offices have adopted the 'best endeavors approach and if it connects its a bonus if it doesnt its Joe Publics fault for posting on a saturday. Which makes it even more ironic that RM want to advance 2c on a Saturday when in many rural offices 1c does not even connect.....

Remember just because a box is scanned doesn't mean it will necessary connect with a MC....Only way to be uncovered is if the old 'test' letter is posted and doesnt arrive in Mc until Monday mornning.

Re: Revision:Saturday collections
But that's not a problem for the postman, I always miss the lorry on a Saturday because the lorry leaves the office at 12.30 when I can't collect the box until 12 and the office is 30 minutes away plus I'm not due to finish until 13.30 so I can't finish early anywayjessicarabbit wrote:MisterPostie wrote:We have to take the scanners out on a Saturday (the ones used on SA collections) and scan and collect all boxes on our delivery route.
