Flats-Houses-Flats-Houses...

Post by POSTMAN »

Interested to know how you're dealing with the situation of having loads of houses then wallop a few flats then back on to the houses and so on.
Round my way and i'm sure it's the same for most of you we have flats within rows of houses.
They are not large (6-8 dwellings)but the trolly would be out of sight and if you've an attendance call in there you are obviously away from the trolly longer.
And because of stairs the trolly would not be able to go in the main door.

The 5kg bag thing is no good unless you do the round say twice which no doubt RM wont let that happen.
The only other way could be to make the loops smaller in between each flat so the CDV is moved more and more.

Thoughts?

my thoughts - I've got a walk that is all tenement flats. For two days this week, thanks to five heavy door to door items, I have used a HCT to assist with delivery.

This means it's out of sight every time I'm in a block (which is like every minute or two). So far, there have been no problems and I have been sticking with carrying only 5kg max, because I'm dipping back to the trolley every other block - thus, moving the trolley every two doors. It's time consuming in terms of moving the trolley and trying to avoid the dog sh*t, but because you aren't carrying the weight up and down, it's quicker in that respect.

I'm not sure if this is only happening because I complained loudly, or if I'll get away with it until someone realises the strange 'technology' contains presents. And yes, obviously any specials are kept on my person and all time (in the delivery wallet I'm also carrying).

Interesting,it says 'Take all mail from trolley. Chain trolley to immovable object.'
The taking of mail from the trolly would be a 100% non starter.

So interested in how you guys get round this whole senerio.

Sounds like my bike delivery which starts and finishes within a mile of the D.O

Was a bike delivery soon to be an HCT delivery :chuckle unless of course your Regional Delivery Director has a plan of his own outside the current agreement.

There will be no HCT's in my area unless we have the ramp thing. But that is not part of the agreement is it?
The problem is this flats/houses thing affects i would say near enough every walk in the office.

Wondering how others have got round this or has it just been swallowed.
If i can do anything to make the duties outside smaller by being a pain i will.
Or at least get the timeings changed for our benefit ie:The walks are now 4-15 instead of 4 type of thing.

You have to get individual timings for all the bits and pieces that you can't use the trolleys on.
This includes flats, shops and steep terrain where using the trolley would be dangerous.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

That is what i'm after, but there will be parts of most of the walks where 'Using RM's policies' we shouldn't be doing this and that and it has to be done in a completly different way as i mentioned in my 1st post.

Also a trolly gets nicked because of this and that or because we've swallowed it then the OPG is for the high jump. :no no

Should be interesting when we start the revision talk.

There are two types of trolley the HCTs will be within one mile and are physically pushed to the start line.......yup bit o'work involved there and the second is an LWT a lightweight sturdy FOLDABLE jobbie that goes in the back of the van which will be for deliveries OVER 1 mile from the office...............and cycles? well they are the dinosaurs of the delivery world. Couple that with the WSMs and less IPS and prep time and whoa are there going to be some sad faces.

You have to flag these areas up in the planning stage....it may be that you have to build in time to visit these spots separately using the van and a 5kg bag.
If you can plan your loops to start at these areas it helps but there will be times when the trolley is out of sight for a few seconds...side doors etc...this is unavoidable.

And woof...that's for non-delivery methods...once you get DM you shouldn't have the bag(16kg) on your shoulder.
