Complaints flood in as Crewe's postal service reaches 'break

Complaints flood in as Crewe’s postal service reaches 'breaking point' http://www.crewechronicle.co.uk/crewe-n ... -27628212/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

SOUTH Cheshire’s postal service has been thrown into a state of chaos since the Royal Mail’s closure of Crewe Sorting Office in the summer.

What began with a worrying stream of complaints has turned into an avalanche – with people across the area angry at the third rate service which is delaying post by up to a fortnight.

Firms say it is costing them money while householders lives are being disrupted in a multitude of ways.

Postal workers have admitted they are close to “breaking point” because of the havoc caused by the relocation of mail sorting to Warrington and new routes for posties.

MP Edward Timpson, who fought against the sorting office closure, has been inundated with complaints about the haphazard delivery service.

“This is the single, biggest complaint I’ve had since becoming an MP – and it’s coming from the length and breadth of the constituency,” he said.

The Tory MP said big businesses were being undermined by the disruption and some small businesses are suffering cash flow problems because of late cheques in the mail.

Householders have complained in droves about missing and late mail.

Each has their own tale of woe –- from the upset of missing birthday cards and presents to the anguish of missed medical appointment and overdraft charges for delays in cheques arriving.

Most of the complaints Mr Timpson has received have come via email or phone calls – because Mr Timpson also isn’t getting his post.

“I have every sympathy with businesses and residents,” he said. “People are saying this is the worst they’ve known for 25 years. Royal Mail has got to sort it out quickly. It’s not as if we didn’t warn them this would happen if they closed the sorting office at Crewe. They’ve left a lot of people high and dry.”

He said no blame could be levelled at Royal Mail workers.

“It seems they’ve been given an impossible task,” he said. “Chaos is reigning.”

The Chronicle too has been inundated with complaints about the postal deliveries – as have Crewe councillors.

Cllr Chris Thorley said: “Everywhere I go people are complaining about it.”

The Chronicle asked Royal Mail, on your behalf, why the service is in such chaos in South Cheshire and what managers intend to do to improve it.

Here is the response: “As part of Royal Mail’s £2bn investment in modernising its operations, delivery routes are being reviewed and reorganised at delivery offices across the country to make them more efficient and to balance workloads.

“At Crewe delivery office, for example, revised routes and new delivery methods were introduced two weeks ago and Sandbach delivery office made changes three weeks ago. “When any such major change is implemented, some disruption is possible as postmen and women get used to the new ways of working and some mail deliveries may arrive later in the day than normal.
“However, we have been doing everything we can to keep our customers updated about the changes and to minimise any delays until the revisions bed in.

“Customers can find out what change is happening in their area by going to http://www.royalmail.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; opsmodernisation.

“Business customers can also sign up for email service updates by going to http://www.royalmail.com/myserviceupdates" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Quite simple really

The runners, early starters, non meal break, car using posties are wot dun it

by inputting the figures into a computer that has little relation to the real world

attempting to put 2 people completely different speed doing 3 set of duties in one, packet, collections and letter delivery.

Plus they thought it would save money making us work like donkeys after all they got away with it for so long thanks to the runners and general apathy.

at somewhere along the line you will eventually get a breaking point where you could not go any further.
