at least you have made a start in the right direction, there are plenty of good posties on here who will keep you right, dont,& i mean DONT let the managers get you down, they get a hard on under the desk thinking about it,work to your time, observe the correct procedures, always have a witness when speaking to management, make sure you keep a diary,if the office is as bad as you make out,no one will back you up,times ,dates ,content etc.

Apparently the Area Reps a bit of a staunch Union madman, supposed to be really good. BUT, and there's always a bloody big BUT in my office when things seem to be going right, he's apparently fed up of dealing with my office because of the amount of runners and early starters, general feeling seems to be he's banging his head against a brick wall.
Wish me luck eh?
Good on you
How did it go ?

You sure your not from my office mate
Ive had the same, except ive always stood my ground and finally after 8 years they no longer try and belittle me.
Ive since became a rep and actually get on ok with the new dom
The linos however are complete cocks , yet i know several important things that i remind them of if i need,
namely
1) My start time
2) My finish time
Thats all.
if the above 2 points do not get the desired effect I add a third
3) I will work to my time, I will not be forced or hassled to do extra, else ill whack in a grievance
Oddly I never have to make any other points.
Also a few years ago I had a meltdown in front of the dom and a lino, which I recorded the conversation where I had an eppy fit.
Was classic
DOM left soon after and sadly I dont get hassle anymore.

So are the 'old punks' that you say have been brilliant to work with also coming in early and running round too?
Jesus! you cant even rely on punks to stick two fingers up to the 'man' nowadays, though judging by what John Lydon
has been up to recently, im nae surprised! ......Is the manager Dirty Harry? -'go ahead punk make my day,run around
like a muppet and dont book docket!'...
Also if your area rep is ok but cant be arsed with the majority of nuggets that work with you then at least get him to
help you put in a grievance against the manager because he has no right to force you to work overtime etc.etc,etc.

Re: Bullied, Harassed, Forced into Overtime, the usual...
Ladies and gentlemen, today has been a day of great progress.
When i got in the office, i found that i didn't have to ask for the area reps number - he was in the office for a meeting with us and the management about the revision!
So we all crowded into the canteen and i made sure to make myself heard, the meeting today was about this new 1-in-3 Saturdays off thing and moving from 3-and-a-half-hour duties to 4-and-a-half. I got right in there. Asking questions, challenging points made and combating information given about the revision (best thing since sliced bread apparently) with what i have learned of it on here, but i didn't give away my sources and i was nothing but polite (debating club dontchaknow ;))
What it came down to in the meeting was this - the revision will cure all. My "Me against the World" attitude (Managers exact words!) will be solved by partnering me up with someone with, hopefully, similar ideals. Unfortunately, no-one else starts at their time! How will the revision solve this if the Management won't enforce it now?
But i caught the reps attention, also caught him nodding and approving of certain things i said. I left the meeting to an empty office so i never had a chance to catch our old Union man,who is fairly reliable but quit because no-one would stand up for doing the job right funnily, because he does the Postbox collections and some packets. Fair enough. I managed to get him at a Postbox on my walk and discussed the meetings i had with my manager earlier in the week and this morning. I told him what the manager said about my walk.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
"Yeah mate, totally." i replied.
"That's funny, because it was only a week today he was saying your walk is too heavy and will be virtually impossible to complete come Xmas."
How's that for two-faced management ladies and gentlemen? The same man who said my walk was a doddle had no sooner said that it was nearing impossibility!
It basically comes down to this - i have my old Union mans backing because he knows i start at my time and respects that, he also says i will easily have the backing of the area rep who he talks to frequently and says he will discuss this matter with him. Finally, he said it's time for a straight-to-brass-tacks meeting between me and the management with either him or the area rep (or both) present. He guarantees i will not be fobbed off this time because this cannot continue.
And then, on my way to my walk, i saw one of my favourite colleagues running from door-to-door with a full bag on his back.
Sorry to be so constantly long-winded, don't want to get myself a reputation! But, i want to keep you all fully informed with any and all details i can! I will continue to keep you all updated.

But isn't all this ridiculous just to achieve something every other working person does on a near-daily basis?

The people that do the job properly get more hassle than the people that run around like headless chickens.
Being in the business for over ten years the management have got a lot worse by bullying harassing and making up their own rules as they please. This is unacceptable and sometimes in this job you do need to put your foot down but at the same time need support from other sources. I know like many others that the union have not been the best over the last couple of years but i still support them because with out them your job as well as others would be even worse by taking s*** from management day in day out.
It wasn't long ago i signed a dignity and respect form and shown a video on what could happen within the work place if a colleague was being racist and showing signs of bullying towards another member of staff. Personally i think the doms should of signed this agreement because alot of this happens behind closed doors.

Its because your doing the job properly and no one else is backing you, so you always seem to get the hassle. Ive been there
As to the runners they will find more and more worked pushed their way to in the end the older ones will be off sick with injury and the younger folks just plain knackerd, its a mugs game now

Progressing further each day, got a quick chat today in the office regarding the issue. Ex-union man present as witness, managers tune has thoroughly changed with a witness in with me. Meeting's set for Saturday, i've to come in a half hour early (Irony
) for it and the Ex-union chap will be present for that as well. If it can't be solved at a base level within the office the area rep. will become involved.
And if the meeting takes less than half an hour then i'll wait in the Canteen with my book. They're not catching me out!

Over many years i've seen loads of colleagues physically shattered, stressed out beyond belief, late next day due to exhaustion etc.But not once, never, have i witnessed any line manager show even one bead of sweat on their brow,or even any remote sign of being tired or distressed.I wonder why.......

Sounds like you're getting more joy than me at the minute! I thought I signed a 30hr a week contract 9.00-3.00, yet they give u a workload that is impossible to finish within that time, then expect u to stay and finish on o/t.
No thanks, got to go at 3.00....so getting the usual "I did that in 3 hours"....."I could do that in 2.5 hours" of the dlm. Funny though that every1 of the experienced posties I asked re my workload, said it is at least a 4 hour walk if you know the route
I have the union rep coming over monday to try help sort us new guys out.....as was close to walking today, before I got threatened to be marched off site
I guess this would be a good job if it wasn't run by idiotic big time charlies
