MP reported Dundee East delivery office problems three weeks ago — and was met by silence

Dundee East MP Stewart Hosie wrote to his local Royal Mail delivery depot about the late delivery of mail in his constituency three weeks ago and is still waiting for a reply.

He is still hoping for a response, and may call for a meeting with officials at the branch to seek an improvement in the situation before the busy Christmas period arrives.

The SNP MP spoke out as problems continue to plague the Dundee East delivery office. Claims of piled-up mail in the office have even led Tayside Fire and Rescue to arrange an inspection of the West Pitkerro depot to ensure the piles of letters and parcels are not blocking access to fire exits and hoses.

Royal Mail insists the building is safe but appears to be conceding that the backlog problem will take longer to deal with than first hoped. They had earlier said the build-up is expected to be cleared by the middle of this week but on Tuesday a spokeswoman said, "We are trying to clear the backlog this week."

They asked for patience for the situation to be resolved and explained their callers' office would be open for longer to help customers collect items which postal workers have tried to deliver.

The Courier has been inundated with complaints from customers about late or missing mail since last week, and has also received comments from Dundee East postal workers critical of the new delivery system.

Customers are unhappy at not receiving important letters like notices of hospital appointments, and the latest criticism of this was from a Broughty Ferry woman.

"The hospital sent the letter to me more than a week ago but it still hasn't arrived and I also haven't received a letter from my medical practice," said the woman, who declined to be identified.

"I fear the letters are sitting in a large pile of undelivered mail at the Dundee East sorting office and I may not see them in time for going to hospital."

Mr Hosie has also received complaints from constituents over a variety of issues in the Broughty Ferry area which he said dated from last month. He wrote to the manager of Dundee East delivery office on October 20 but has not yet received a reply.

"I was approached by a number of constituents a few weeks ago and it would be fair to say that this problem is a recurring one," he said. "I have been contacted about these kinds of issues with some frequency over the past few years.

"Typically, my constituents have been angered 'sorry you were not at home' cards have been put through the letterbox when the householders are in."

He continued, "In my most recent letter of October 20, I asked for an update on what steps Royal Mail will be taking to ensure the best possible service in Broughty Ferry and beyond — with the festive season looming."

i tell them the way to make managers pay attention is to cut,stream etc
now we have posties desperate for docket going up and helping RM after they shafted the Dundee posties
wonder how they will feel when they are in the same boat and staff come in to the help the managers who are harassing them

Most likely the same guys that "cleaned up" after last years strikes Custard.
There is never a shortage of scumbags that will screw you over for a few extra bucks.
It's one of the main reasons the jobs fecked.

Hit the nail on the head there, Dundee East seems to be the dumping ground for useless managers, most of them appear to be failed postmen.
