THREE men have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery in which a security guard was shot in the leg.

The men are also being questioned over a separate robbery where another security guard was hit with the butt of a gun.

Police are questioning the men, aged 27, 19, and 19, today over a robbery outside the Co-op store in Trowell Road, Wollaton around 12.20pm on Thursday, October 21.

Two men threatened a security guard from a Royal Mail van with a firearm, before hitting him with the butt of the weapon.

They grabbed cash before escaping in a car that was driven towards Coventry Lane.

The men are also being questioned over an attempted robbery of a female security guard delivering cash to the Londis store, in Beech Avenue, Sherwood Rise, at around 11.45am on Wednesday, October 27.

The security guard was shot in the leg by one of the two men involved in the attack.

Detectives are still appealing for information about the movements of a green Volkswagen Passat, with the registration plate R954 0NL, which is believed to have been used in both offences.

A police spokesperson said: "Extreme threats and violence was used in both the robbery and attempted robbery, with no thought spared for the injuries caused.

"The green VW Passat has distinctive chrome wing mirrors, which may have drawn attention. We would ask anyone who saw this vehicle or who knows where it was being stored during the six days between the two offences, to contact us."
