total cost? a lot more than the sheep was worth.

But is it not their job to ease the animals suffering as the sheep must have been terrified if not injured. I dont know if you can put a cost on suffering? What if it was a dog ? If it was my dog or cat stuck down there i would be sick with worry.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

...but it wasn't a pet krussel and i know this won't sit well with a lot of people but you have to make a distinction otherwise the whole idea of farming animals becomes ludicrous.
You should never leave an animal to suffer if you can but the sensible option would have involved a rifle and a steady aim....although that probably wouldn't have made good T.V. and may have had a negative effect on donations.
The idea of abseiling down a cliff to "rescue" a sheep that was more than likely going to end up in a pie or even worse dog food for your beloved pet seems to me to be "playing to the camera's" a bit.

I know farmers that have rescued sheep that have fallen down onto ledges. Whilst farm animals aren't pets, they should still be cared for and looked after.

Animals have every right to live as we humans do, regardless of their species. Obviously some are bred for eating but they should still have as comfortable a life as they can until it's time to go to the abattoir.

If it was someone's kid or a pet, then there would've been no question about going down there to rescue it. Just because it's a sheep doesn't make it's life worth any less than anything else.

Yes April so have i..... if it's practical but you won't catch one abseiling down a cliff to rescue one.
Of course animals should always be cared for but you cannot transfer the values you have for your family pet to a farm beast...and that's what happens with these programmes.
You say that animals have every right to live as we humans do, regardless of their species but that's not really the case when you domesticate and farm animals is it?....unlike humans, animals live as we choose them to live whether it's in your house or in a barn they are there through our choice not theirs.

I don't believe in animals suffering unnecessarily but i'm honest enough with myself to realise that you cannot say you value an animals life as highly as human life...and then serve it with mint sauce for Sunday dinner.

Wouldn't surprise me if the TV production crew pushed it over the cliff in the first place :shhhhh

I guess you have point if it ends the suffering than that could have been an option.

Talking of suffering my collie is shaking with fright at the fireworks going off as i type this  We have given him a tablet the vets gave us last year but it is yet to have taken affect.

Close all the curtains and jack up the volume on the tv really loud...................and make sure the sofa is slightly pulled out from the wall, that usually works for my dog (and staying with them also helps).

It would have for me. :Very Happy

What I dont like about the RSPCA is people's attitude. The society for the protection of animals has royal patronage, the society for the protection of children doesn't.
The RSCA is swimming in money, people leave huge bequests in their wills to it, sometimes the entire estate. While the NSPCC struggles for funding. RSPCA is all over the TV, NSPCC hardly ever gets a mention.

I do realise this is down to people's priorities being distorted and skewed in the wrong direction rather than a particular fault of the organisation.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?
