Tax Code Change ...

If RM HR have fecked up and there are those who have not been changed when either it moved over or started in the job then they surely have to have it backdated.
Anyone effected just keep pushing it.

Rang HR and they said I had to contact HMRC. I did so but they told me that it is a flat rate payment and I would have to write to them to claim. She suggested £200 per annum would be about the rate. HMRC also told me RM is not on the list of automatic claims and that they would make a decision when they received my letter. I have just posted my letter and being cheeky I've claimed for £250 per annum! Also have tried to have it backdated to July 2008! Will let you all know when I know.

While chasing up a tax code reduction error thats now been going on for ~6 weeks (0588L instead of 647L), I've justed asked about the uniform cleaning allowance...

Got told that payroll allow for the uniform cleaning without changing the tax code as such i.e. I pay less tax then the standard, even though payslips show the standard code!

That's just bonkers... The whole point of a tax code is so that it can clealy be seen by all how their wages are being taxed, rather than "hidden" tax allowances while keeping the standard 647L code.

Write to HMRC stating you work for RM as a Postie and have to launder a Logo'd uniform. You must state the workwear has a logo on! Ask them to allow xx number of £'s for laundry and see what they say! Easy peasy!

They will make the alteration to your code over the phone, any rebates are paid through a reduction in tax paid, ( probably next pay packet), they will also tell you to claim for past years and will re-assess the amount you have paid, but this may require you to send them some documents like P45 part 1A, this new system they have is finding millions of people who have over paid, so it may be worth being re-assessed.
I found them very helpful.

just rang up, my tax code is 647l got it changed to 653l, they said they only allow £60 for cleaning uniform. Is this right ? spoke to colleagues at work and they tax code of 660l ?????
