Re: Using a car on delivery
We all have to go back to the DO after our duty to sign off and we have cycles, seems like you've been told you can go home when you finish without doing so. Anyone at our DO who cannot get back can get the bus and reclaim the cash! All you are doing is saving the DOM money and giving yourself a possible headache when it goes wrong. Roll on the 2010 agreement to stop PCOD!belle smith wrote:Watchote i also used to use my car on delivery when i was a reserve, as the alternative was to walk miles back to the DO to pick up my car, as managers and the CWU said you 'finnish on the street'.Watchcote wrote:..........and therein lies the problem! Attitudes like that have killed the job.dohnut wrote:All they need is your licence/mot(if needed)/insurance, 80% of people use car at my place including me so dont listen to all these people saying dont use your car, do whatever you want.
Do you do that? walk for miles to pick up your car at the end of the day, after your finishing time? or
do you finish near your house? or
do you have a van? or
do you finish near the DO?
Unless it's the first your not in a position to lecture!

They'll probably introduce "car-share" for the private car users

You missed the part were i said used to! and when i used to we had a job and finnish, so yes i did go home.Watchcote wrote:We all have to go back to the DO after our duty to sign off and we have cycles, seems like you've been told you can go home when you finish without doing so. Under the new agreement everyone will be returned to there place of work, the way you and i currently are, so there would be no reason for anyone to take their car.
But if you were being left miles away from were you left your car that morning and expected to make your own way back (as the origonator of the thread is and i was) would you not be tempted to use it?
EDIT: a problem which i'm sure doesn't affect spacephonenix or youwot

Special type of insurance???

what chance do we have when you still have people like this who cant see what damage using their own car does to the job? you're either very naive or just plain selfish.

Re: Using a car on delivery
The business is in that much of a mess at the moment they would let you use a double decker bus on delivery no questions asked. you do actually need business insurance or your not covered. Now, that's if your moving your car up to the next location. Saying that if you use your car to bring your first bag then use bag drops you need nothing, that's because no mail is left in the car.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Seems strange that you can get dumped miles from a d.o with no means of transport back and no built in timePOSTMAN wrote:It does......................for most.Lateagainpostie wrote:I thought duty time included office to office on delivery ?
When i first started i used to get a lift out to a nearby village to do a delivery(5 miles away) and got given bus money to get back, travelling time included in the duty tooI
i'm surprised people would agree to get shafted so badly, what does your rep say about that cushy little number?

It's obvious form the site that some revisions were done without a lot of thought over the years. Some have been seriously mugged over.

Re: Using a car on delivery
Given the upcoming longer duty spans and increased call rate what with D2D in workload and growing packet traffic ,I'm having to consider uprating my transportation . Would folks recommend my purchase of either
A) A subaru forester
OR
B) a Renault Traffic
