... got a letter from HMRC advising of a change to my tax code (from 647L to 659L) - Note 2 on the letter said:
"HM Revenue & Customs has agreed with the union that £120 is the amount you are likely to have to pay out for doing this job".
Can anyone advise how this is worked out ? Can't complain too much I guess as today's pay slip (yes one day late !) included a £132 tax refund - just interested to know how this £120 figure was calculated by the union ...

Can anyone confirm if this applies to part-timers too?
I was recently hit for a tax code reduction, after HMRC tried to make out that my redundancy pay from my last job needed some tax clawing back. Within seconds of my phonecall to HMRC and saying that I received Statutory Redundancy Pay which has tax deductions at source, the error was admitted and my code was reverted back to 647L. However, four weeks on and having received a letter from HMRC confirming my tax code revertion to 647L ten days ago, yet another week's pay was set at 0588L!
Now if I can claim this 659L and also get this backdated cleaning allowance to a year ago today when I started, this could be a nice "Brucey bonus" before Xmas!

If by "part-timer" you mean 24 hours a week - or something like - I am one of same ... and the £132 rebate is already spent/planned to be spent
