Bigger offices there may be a need for pre scheduled release, but smaller ones like mine ,I would proably end up twiddling my thumbs.

Fully agree with that Daz.Big Daz wrote:I beg to differ...clashcityrocker wrote:Wouldn't it be better for the rep to hold a reserves role, so he has to do every f***ing walk he has signed off as achievable?
I didnt become a rep to throw away 19 years on seniority, its hard enough as it is to get memebrs to get active in the CWU taking away their senority in order to become a rep would make it even harder.
Every ballot has yes votes and no votes at my D.O sometimes the ayes have it sometimes the nayes have it.
Reps, shouldn't be punished for representing their members.

How is it being punished exactly?
You start at the same time - you finish at the same time.
The workload in-between has to be achievable.
What exactly is your seniority protecting?

Could i answer your question with a question.
How many of the staff in your office at the top of the seniority list choose being a reserve.

That, Clash could be a topic all to itself on this forum.clashcityrocker wrote: What exactly is your seniority protecting?
Seniority was introduced in 1860 supposedly to end corruption and reward loyalty.
It has in my opinion lost its way a little.

Re: CWU Reps revision walks
Obviously no-one chooses to be a reserve because it is the shittiest job in a DO.
But no-one else puts themselves forward to oversee the fair implementation of the revision.
What better way to ensure the reserves workload is as fair and achievable as the most senior postie?

I'm not a big fan of seniority.fishtank wrote:Seniority was introduced in 1860 supposedly to end corruption and reward loyalty.![]()

We send the least experienced posties to do the most difficult job.
If RM ran a building firm and it had 2 jobs on - a small garden wall that needed repointing and a difficult roof repair - it would send the experienced builder to repoint the wall and the boy on the YOP scheme to mend the roof.
As you say - seniority has lost its way a little.

The reason that seniority has lost it's way is because there are now a million reasons why people think they are above the tried and tested method.

Partly yes dvb and partly because there is far too much difference now between the workload at the top of the seniority pile and the bottom.dvbuk55 wrote:The reason that seniority has lost it's way is because there are now a million reasons why people think they are above the tried and tested method.
Too many revisions were "helped along" by people with one eye fixed firmly on their place in the pecking order.
If the duties are all fair and equally achievable i have no problem with seniority at all.

Re: CWU Reps revision walks
I know what you are saying ft, but the case as ever was always a disparity in the workload and the senior men got the easiest duties because they had the first pick. The ones who were deciding what the duty structure would be were probably the very ones who stood to gain most from them. Now that it is an automated process that element should disappear - only to be replaced with, FF, DDA, an allergy to work - and I have seen that happen in this latest repick - 20 years ago every duty went in the pot, everybody chose and never a moments thought went into it - now............. the army of whingers grows by the hour.fishtank wrote:Partly yes dvb and partly because there is far too much difference now between the workload at the top of the seniority pile and the bottom.dvbuk55 wrote:The reason that seniority has lost it's way is because there are now a million reasons why people think they are above the tried and tested method.

Re: CWU Reps revision walks
At my place the SDD revision was a shambles,i was newish there so i did not realise until P&M how bad it was.
The senior blokes done the SDD revision so,well you can guess how the duties were.
I helped the revision in P&M and knocked a few noses out of joint. They are still crying now!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That is in the eye of the beholder, trouble is when it comes to delivery duties the mbrs speak with many conflicting voices.
