How can a divisional rep sign of a local agreement against the wishes of the local members?
That would be executive action.....by the union..

Oh yes indeedy, the div rep will be losing near enough all cwu members from our office if this is what happens.

Our office returned a ballot of 23 No votes, to 2 yes votes, not everyone counted yet but the no's have it even if all other voters are yes men, or women. It's clear what we think.

We have been told there's another 1 week delay on implementation, as the big cheeses can't come down to meet up with our rep, H&S rep until next week.

Looks like a small victory so far anyway :nana , first of many :pray

Personally i am working now under the new revisions, I can tell everyone as soon as the bad weather comes that royal mail will be stuck getting stuff delivered, as h&s should be standing up and telling managment that its not safe to deliver, Most areas our d.o covers are on hills how many accidents are we going to have this year i bet they rise lots, this is a good idear but there is far to much work being put on everyone for this to work as a sucess, It does work on quite days but is a nighmare on busy days which are normally wednesday, thursday, friday. It might make them think when country's post cant get to them for the first time this year!.

royal mail starting to play dirty we had half of meal break at end of round so postmen/women can get home to pick up kids as we have now challenged this revision for what it is i have today been told are breaks will happen mid way in are delivery span and we will have to take it in the van and not return to office .
have a plan to combat this but seems even area rep is pushing for revision over my head. :no no

I am afraid to be the bearer of bad news but its against the law for RM to plan breaks at the end of the working day. They have to by law I believe be planned to occur somewhere in the middle of the working day. You may be able to get them to unofficially accept people take the break at the end, as it appears most offices do to some extent, but they cannot officially plan it into the duty.

Source: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... G_10029451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Rest breaks - a break during your working day
As an adult worker (over 18), you will normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you are expected to work more than six hours at a stretch.
A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There is no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.

The requirements are:

the break must be in one block
it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

...but is this other 20mins covered by legislation at all TBT.
I personally wouldn't think so.

I have to add i'm against the use of 20mins at the end of your shift...i think it's a slippery slope from that point to losing it altogether and it still feels like chasing time however i do understand that SOME members have other commitments etc.

I think in this case it's more of a punitive measure rather than a need to follow any guidelines.
And postman8..if your ADR is so keen to push the revision through tell him to test a couple of the duties himself...that should see him crawl back under his rock.

Not sure about that Fishtank but it does bring up one interesting point about breaks that have never been addressed as far as I can tell.

If you have 2 people on different daily hours how do you align their breaks. Does the 6 hour bod get out of the CDV 10 minutes before the 8 hour one, or even reversed if the 8 hour person has split their break. :hmmmm :hmmmm :hmmmm

Could be a source of friction I think.

What if one wants to take a break half way round and the other wants it on the end.
How will that one be handled.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

I don't think it will matter what you want..i think it will be scheduled that you take your full 40 mins before you leave the office or that you take 20 mins during your delivery.
I don't think this "take it at the end" thing will last much longer and any people conflicts that arise will finish it even sooner but that's just my opinion.

FT - anyone would think you don't have a very high opinion of an Area rep........ :left:

I have a low opinion of anyone, manager or union official trying to push a revision through against the wishes of the local members.....after all they don't have to actually deliver these duties.
Area reps....i don't mind them but i couldn't eat a whole one......i'll get my coat.

We've had ours in place for a few weeks and all I can say is it is total shite. What was a walk that was correct is now over by 30 - 40 mins I can see no allowance for toilet break, having to make up extra bags due to extra weight . Have had 5 d2d on top of extra delivery points so even more weight added . Planed for 4hr delivery inc travel but travel takes 20mins e/way on bike so without travel time is down to 3hr 20 . Soon as the christmas pressure starts it will be melt down. Drivers unable to clear packets now.

Total tossers computer says it can be done so end of story,

Shite in Shite out

And we still have braindeads coming in early so they can complete and using private cars , talk about stiching up people who do it right. some colleagues

It's only when you get your delivery methods revision and since he's still talking about bike duties i don't think they've got theirs yet.

Hahahahahahahaha, starting to play dirty???? From the moment that agreement was signed RM have just got scummier and scummier in their tactics...

At least, though this 20mins at the end was my only lifeline for childcare, this new tactic from management will just further alienate the workers. you'd have thought that with an almost unanimous vote against the new revisions they'd be wanting to try to keep us sweet.

i was surprised the vote was so unanimous, I'd have thought people would have been wanting the bribe money before Christmas....

There's absolutely no way there's gonna be any support from the office with this latest tactic, a lot of people were depending on that 20 mins for picking up kids etc...might even be some support for a STRIKE! :nana :nana :nana

Battle lines are drawn.

Never Say Die!

:mfo :cfo When can we get a Higson and Toolhurst, and Ward, Hayes and Gibson smilies? I don't mind the Mandelson and Crozier ones, but could do with lining up the lot of them for a big :lfo (sorry Al)
