er.. I thought we were talking about Christmas day. Isn't it a bank holiday, same as Good Friday, Easter Monday, Boxing Day etc?

No...not when it falls at the weekend because banks don't need a saturday off.
Monday 27th is the "substitute" Bank Holiday for Christmas day.

Last year those due to have Saturday off (which I never get) did not get it back as its a non service day not a bank holiday.

Is it fair -No.
Is it fair I never get a Saturday off - No

But thems the breaks - sometimes you win, sometimes life kicks you in the nuts.
last year the sat was the boxing day, we got the monday off to make up for it, but you are right, they didnt give a day in lieu, this year they SHOULD be giving us the saturday, sunday, monday, AND the tuesday, off, as they did the last time the xmas day and boxing day fell on a weekend.....HOWEVER, they WILL try to weasle their way out of it as they tried last year, by the so called 'clawback of hours' rule they tend to make up when it suits them. hopefully the union will step in as they did last year. :Very Happy

Do you mean they should be giving people lieu days if their day off falls on one of those days, or do you mean that we aren't off those days?

My CWU diary states that those days are all holidays, and there's no way I'm working any of them. Made plans.

no not lieu days, but we are due to have the mon(27th dec) off, this is in lieu of the xmas day which falls on a sat, and the tues(28th dec) in lieu of the boxing day which falls on the sunday. BUT they will probably try to come the game, by announcing the clawback of hours scheme. they tried it at our office last year. my day off last xmas was thurs 24th dec, so i was due to be off thurs fri, sat, sun, mon. they said i would have to work my day off(without pay) as we owed them 8 hours for the extra day we had off(,mon28th). they said it was 'clawback of hours'. but the union stepped in and told them to sling their hook.

I wouldn't worry too much about clawback....that's unlikely this year.
What i would watch for is just how many of your reserves end up with Saturday off that week. :d'oh!
