many offices have CWU H&S reps and also established safe systems of work so although RM managers accountable our CWU H&S reps are more qualified in most cases than office manager; Closing due to H&S is unlikely .

You shouldn't say things like 'I'm not a manager, so f*ck 'em, I'll not support 'em.' Or, 'They didn't support us so we'll not support them.'

Just remember this little verse ...

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

You all need to stick together. The government and the big privatised companies are your enemy - not each other.
The other side of the coin (very enlightening!) ...

The sheer crassness of likening a present day labour dispute to life under the Nazi regime aside, that is a very naive view. Managers and the workforce are enemies in Royal Mail. Always have been and no doubt, always will be. despite fine words being added to agreements negotiated beytween us and them, nothing ever changes.

People tell me it's not like that in other industries. Maybe they are right, I wouldn't know. All I know from experience is that managers take great delight in enforcing every bullying and harrassing edict handed down from above. not one of them has ever spoken up for us, why the hell should we speak up for them ? What goes around comes around.

This could be a good opportunity to finally get some leverage on RM. Yes the managers crossed the picket lines, but sticking two fingers up at them as we walk through thiers would be a waste. If CWU could arrange some agreement with UNITE that they will support any further action CWU take in the future it could really gives us the upper hand in negotiations further down the line.

As always united we stand, divided we fall. If that means biting your lip and siding with the managers in order to improve our situation in future negotiations, I think its worth it!

I think the issue here is not how managers crossed the CWU picket lines in the past, remember that many CWU members did cross the picket lines as they were not involved in the dispute. The issue is that many managers were quite prepared to cover postie's work even when they were from different departments, despite CMA/Unite telling them not too. So it's a bit rich of them to ask for support from the posties when it's the other way round.

:Applause :Applause :Applause That is an excellent point, and one that so far, does seem to have been considered by anyone else...but, I think I might have found just a couple of tiny flaws in the plan - Messers William Hayes & David Ward :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh!

If all managers in a particular office are out on strike, and RM is unable to provide a temporary manager to run that office, would they be enforced under Health and Safety Regulations to declare that office closed, and thus not allow access by postal workers?
No we can still work as normal, as long as more than 2 people turn up you are fine to work

(Yawn) Not that old bleedin' chestnut. Workers should fight up for fellow workers. Workers fighting up for managers, well, think about it, I mean, carefully think about it, not in the order of things, is it? Not natural, know what I mean? And if the shoe was on the other foot, would managers stand shoulder to shoulder with us?
Forget them, forget their problems, whatever happens to them in the future will be thoroughly deserved.
