We need to be sure if this is a business wide or area specific ballot, because at the moment the targets are faceless beaureacrats in non-jobs ( such as "deputy assistant co-manager in charge of refreshments ( hot )" where the only qualifications needed are degree level education and an asshole....and the asshole is opitonal ). As such any redundencies will not directly affect us from coming in & getting the mail out, so I doubt most of us have to worry about the prospect of crossing a picket.

If it is area specific, will RM pay enough attention to the CMA when the mail is getting moved through the system, and the USO & QoS is maintaining it's usual standard? If so, RM might think the CMA is weak enough to be an irrelevance, and declare open season on managers.

If it is business wide, will enough managers in DOs & MCs feel threatened enough to lose a day's pay, especially if they feel smugly safe, or that their fate is sealed and are looking foward to a bumper VR pay off? If so, RM will KNOW the CMA is weak enough, and declare open season on managers.

Once open season has been declared, that is when we might have to wory about crossing CMA pickets....until then wait and if you talk to your manager about it, and comiserate his position ( if he's a good 'un ) or watch him squirm ( if he's a bad 'un )
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Oh yes and I for one will never cross a picket line, I just cant help sticking to my principles. :no no
So you don't think they'll be able to find enough strike breakers to keep some (but obviously not all) sites open? :hmmmm
But it IS good to hear from someone else, who puts their morals above scoring points. :Applause :Applause There seem to be far too many, looking forward to the chance to cross Manager's Picket Lines. And I pity them. To have such weak moral fibre, that they'd resort to crossing Picket Lines, simply because the Managers did it to us. :no no :no no
As I have just posited ( typed as you posted ), we should wait for the details of any ballot, before wetting ourselves with the pleasure of crossing any CMA picket... :hmmmm

Use your memories. After all the years of lies, bullying, harassment, wrongful dismissals etc etc we have had to put up with off them, and crossing of OUR picket lines by management, I'd say there is an exception to the rule about not crossing a picket line. RM managers are that exception.

Can't see uniform grades at our gaff not crossing an RM managers picket line - not that it would happen. The screws would be too busy scabbing their own dispute!!!

Weak moral fibre?
You be a doormat, if that's what floats your boat, but I will do unto others, exactly what they did to me, and I will lose not one iota of sleep over it. Thank you. :Very Happy

Too right, mate. :Applause
All this sanctimonious claptrap about it being unethical to cross any future picket lines manned by managers, managers who, by and large, have gone well out of their way to undermine every single one of our strikes, have so slavishly followed the orders of their millionaire masters, as to make the lives of postal workers as miserable, depressing, and stressful, as they possibly could, is a load of old weak, lilly-livered, tosh. No if's, no but's, tosh, pure unadulterated tosh. :evil/mad

If our Managers go on strike I will need to think long and hard about whether or not I will cross their picket line. To me its not a black and white issue and for those who think it is I an genuinely envious of them.

Why I might cross a CMA Picket line:

Can Mangers be considered Workers
Lack of support during our IA
Active and widespread breaking of our strikes in 2007 & 2009 by doing our work.
They Did Posties work during localised strikes travelling from many different locations.
Lack of Support by CMA during CWU IA.
CMA grades used fear and intimidation to get people to break the strike.
CMA Grades followed RM guidance to undermine and under report the success of previous strikes.
CMA grades not being fair-minded in their application of the rules in disputes involving loyal CWU members and strike breakers.
The actions of individual managers during previous strikes.

Why I might not:

Its a trade dispute (or is it)
CMA did instruct their members not to do our work during strikes. (Largely ignored)
It will be a democratic decision by a recognised trade union.
I said I will never cross a picket line
I have some sympathy with their position
If this action is not supported is it possible that RM may try the same on CWU grades.
Would our support of their dispute aid us in the future.

----------------------------- As you can see its not a clear cut decision for me, and I think for a lot of other as well.

The rest doesn't even register with me.
Trade unionists don't cross picket lines. End of.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's not respect for them Stormproof...it's respect for yourself.
I wouldn't cross anybody's picket line....even traffic wardens. :chuckle
They won't strike so all our principles would be intact anyway.
i think they will strike i also think the cwu should jump on the the back of this and sort all this s**t out once and for all . but it makes you wonder what a state this company is in, when for the first time in 30 years the managers are having a ballot for strike action ? i also think a lot of them today will be between a rock and a hard place to what there going to do .

15,000 postal workers jobs gone. Not one word of support from managers.
1,500 managers to go. Much weeping and wailing from managers.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Would we have to cross their picket lines (it would be strange if they stage warned people who didn't come in through not wanting to cross their picket lines)?

EDIT: Is it just higher up managers involved or is it all managers?
The ballot is for support managers and will in the main be at places which are not effecting delivery offices or mail centres.

However I can remember early 80s when the CMA did go on stike for one day , it did not get the support they wanted , however a lot of us did not cross picket lines. I have had my stand up rows with unite over their managers doing our work when we were out on stike including picketing unite headquarters and having meetings with simpson and paul Rourter . However I would not cross their picket lines as i would not cross any picket lines. Its something to do with respect and principles.
I remember that, we all did the job we were supposed to and everything got done with no problems.

If the CMA called a strike for their members and we refused to cross the picket line, because we are from a different Union and have not been balloted would that not be classed as Secondary picketing?
