Seniority on a repick - Urgent

In our office we do the 1 in 6 week off, everyone is on that. So there is no problem as you always know when your rota is, even the reserves. So I can't understand what the problem is. If you have different work patterns, then why can't you be a reserve for 1 pattern only.

We repicked in Jan & full timers ended up as reserves much to their dislike. However, how do you guarantee reserves 1 Sat in 6 as this appears to be a problem at our place

If i've read this right,and i'm fecking up a bit lately,your DOM does not want a part timer as a reserve,that is dodgy ground on lots of counts for him.

How is it dodgy ground? what grounds could I argue a case for seniority of all staff?

Sorry i meant dodgy ground in the sense that you could have a part timer reserve that needs to cover a full time duty,the part timer says i'm only working my hrs feck the rest of the duty.

I'm guessing it depends also on what duty patterns there are in the office,there seems to be different start times,different out door amounts all over the place.
I would of thought it would be easier for part timers to have their own reserves full timers their own ect.

It is hard for reserves but if you keep a rota you would be able to see who has had the most off and in spite of the senior reserve bump those behind to the front of the que when a sat comes up.
That way all reserves get a share.

Because you work the 1 week off in 6, then you just start from a certain date, and then every 6th week, it's a rota week, you need something like this just for holidays if nothing else. Everyone should know what rota week they have off, even when we had a few who had rolling days off, once they started with a day off, then it just carries on.

I really don't see why there should be a problem.

Toenail I think you've fallen foul of the ,"Being Too Useful" trap I don't expect your DIM wants you on one duty he wants to be able to swap you about on all the cycle duties, in case there's sickness or leave.

As Clash says Reserves get the Shitty End of the stick and I think it's about time they got extra pay for it. Could you imagine the s**t Storm that would cause in the Office? Suddenly everyone would want to be a Reserve.

If you want to cause more alarm & despondency try suggesting you get extra pay for driving

well came to my pick today

This was what was left on the list

duty 6
duty 7
duty 50

duty 44 ( 30 hours )
duty 46 ( 30 hours )

Cover job ( 5 rounds , rotating day off , FT )
Locker/44 46 ( fixed fri off every week )

Now the top three duties are all 4 hour delivery span bike rounds, 44 and 46 are now 30 hour bag drop rounds and the bottom job is a FT day off cover job

Three PT jobs have already been allocated due to seniority above me, so I have no issues with that

Dom and rep said to me "right, what are you picking then mandelson ( thats me ) you can choose either the cover job or locker/44 46."

"Erm what about 6,7 and 50. You know the permanent rounds, 4 hour span like the rest, full time rounds until today it seems?"

dom/rep " er they are for the three part time people to pick from"

me " Yeah those three dudes with less seniority than me? How the f**k is that fair?"

me " This is f***ing bollocks, im not picking, im taking 24 hours as im entitled, this is the biggest con going, how can a person with less seniority than me pick their own duty yet i get the s**t cover job or nothing? utter piss take"

as a FT reserve id do say 6 hours del/prep + 2 hours IPS = 8 hours
as a PT reserve id do 6 hours only. No IPS

But I don't understand why it makes any difference to the total number of hours on IPS if you have PT as reserves or on their own walks. You are FT so you do IPS whether you are a reserve or have your own walk. They are PT so they don't do IPS whether they are a reserve or have their own walk. Total no of hours on IPS is the same either way...??

Exactly...the IPS issue is a red herring.
I would imagine the DOM just doesn't want part-timers as reserves because they usually cost a bit more in overtime on unfamiliar walks..

Thats why WSM came in so anyone unfamilar can easily throw walks off but it seems to not be the case when the dom insists that these walks are for p/t only the dom is lazy and i guess this will happen in a lot of offices.
