i wasnt in RM at the time of the vote(and i won my job back with no union assistance bar on here)
but you have to wonder at a union creating/agreeing to the delivery supplement pro rata but not adding a caveat that PT staff get it made up for the % towards 40(or 39) hours they do?
and one that covers all attached to a DO.so for many it meant a wage rise as they never did D2D before
those delivering(like me) saw an instant wage cut and workload increase

Rumour going round our office that there will be up to 15 d2d over the christmas period, not sure I believe it but bring it on I say, will take longer to prep, longer to deliver and cause more cut offs, which will cost RM more money to get delivered by the overtime hunters, what they make from the households tehy will lose in overtime payments, if and it's a big if, everyone does the job properly.....especially over xmas :)

Bring it on :)

In reply to Dingos comments the facts are that the postman on the street is doing more work for less money. The union are starting to sound like they did 15 years ago, it's sounding like the union are trying to talk its members round to agreeing to what royal mail want when they should be trying to get royal mail to agree to what it's members want. When we had industrial action the last time had we carried on with it I feel we would have been able to get some things that its memebers actually wanted and now that it seems all agreements are to be agreed at local level Royal Mail are dividing the union into small groups who have to fight by themselves. The C.W.U used to be a big union who looked after everyone now it seems that each office or mail centre are left to look after themselves.

Me neither, got sh*t to do. I ain't working to paper over the cracks, I'd rather piss me sen laughing at them trying to get their head around complete and utter failure than work till 4pm because of having to post crap through peoples doors when they just want to celebrate Christmas without having all this propaganda advertising bull crap down their frakking throats. Buy, buy, buy, and they wonder why our economy's in the red. I see folk with ten credit cards still in the supermarket queue, 'declined' - what do you mean? 'oh, try this one instead. oh no, this one'.

Oh, it worked. But it didn't, because you maxed out the other nine and then got 'nother one. Twats.

Anyway, I digress. D2ds x 15 over Christmas - hopefully everyone will cut off. But you know they won't, they'll come in early, they'll book time, blah blah, same old crap.

That's exactly how it is now unfortunately....and exactly how Royal Mail wanted it.
They have managed to divide the workforce between part-timers and full-timers...delivery and processing...weak areas and strong areas...apathetic and well.more apathetic.....winners and losers.
Getting back to the original point....i can see the point of D2D into workload to try to negate the "falling mail volumes" and protect jobs but does "falling mail volumes" really apply over the Christmas period. :chuckle
I don't believe in turning down work but at that time of year we could have done without it to be honest. :cuppa

Royal Mail were going to lift the cap on door to door and put it into workload with or without an agreement, Royal Mail were not going to allow this growth product to be left to being delivered or in some cases not delivered by arrangement. We had some OPGs delivering for a number of walks within an office and we had some who were door to door barons.

The union had a policy since 1994 and carried at most union conferences since then which was to get door to door into workload to protect jobs. What the union managed to do was trap the money as well with a review on future growth.

Whilst a load of people criticise this , the fact is Royal Mail`s starting point was that mail volumes and revenue have shunk therefore door to door work can now be delivered without payment.

Now in terms of the early shift payment the fact is in the future very few will be starting at 5 or before 5 30 so what was the union meant to do allow this money to reduce or get it in a permanent addition to basic pay which will grow in line with pay rises.

Now this old chestnut of sending reps back to do the delivery , well all great but whos going to assist the local reps in revisons or all the issues which people moan about on here who`s going to resolve them or the dismissal interviews or appeals. Sometimes I wish some of you actually came into the talks with us as you might get a reality check or better still instead of posting a thread on here go and argue with your dom or even better contact your rep.

If we lose the row on who owns the company then my guess TNT will take a big slice of the company. TUPE is not great and do you know what TNT pay for door to door or in wages to their delivery staff ?
it doesn,t matter whatever spin you try to put on this
the fact is d2d now into workload time at frames :left: ips at xmas no wsm or even walk sorted you know how it comes in at xmas , no extra o-time pre ips only bare nightshift cover to basically split mail,
i will come in at xmas and do my 8 hrs f**k otime at sh*t rate not worth it
gladly cut off sorry i might call it lapsing down during busy period sure my lino will help me work to my time :left:
i used to work every hour at xmas not any mor fed up getting treated like poo rest of the year
so get a grip and realise what is happening every day in rm
you may fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time quote

OK Dingo let's look at some of the pathetic, ammateurish and total failing-of-it's-members negotiating methods of the CWU and look at your so-called 'facts'.

What sort of negotiating position is it to start with what the employer wants to see in the future rather than the actual current working conditions? By your logic over D2D you are basically saying that whatever fantastical and draconian position RM wants to get to, if you only let them get half way there that is a positive outcome. In other words if they come to the table and say - we want posties to do 200% more work than they are now - you will meet them at 100% and say it's a good deal 'because they wanted to make it 200%'. So yes it's a 'fact' that they wanted to end d2d and it's a 'fact' that you 'kept' the money and gave half of it to indoors workers and paid PT'ers a smaller share than FT'ers for doing the same work. YEs that IS an ugly unfair and shameful 'fact'. You DIDN'T keep the money for me, a part-timer, Dingo. You gave me a paycut and took all future money from d2d away from me and all other delivery staff. Thanks. You didn't have to do that you could and should have said 'FO the members don't want it, they are out on strike and aren't going back in for a pay cut'.

You should be making and assessing the standard of new agreements based on CURRENT conditions NOT on what the employer wants to see in the future. RM want the Earth we know that is a fact. You are supposed to PROTECT and ENHANCE our working conditions NOT sign them away because the employer wants to worsen our conditions. My CWU subs have been cancelled to make up for my pay cut form d2d money - a part timer shafted again.

Does anyone know if Watchdog has run an article on door to doors, especially since June when the potential number of marketing items increased?

If not, I'd love them to run a piece on BBC, highlighting the nuisance value of what I've always been told is "rubbish" by every customer who has mentioned this "junk." Not to mention I would love them to highlight how customers go about opting out and how rediculous the current scheme is that takes ~3 months to finally lighten the postie's load!

I think that what really p*sses off a lot of members is the fact we WERE paid for a MAXIMUM of 3 D2Ds.
Now the limit has been lifted and we get feck all.
Surely the starting point should have been was to lift the limit and keep the payments OR
to cancel the payments and keep the limit.
It F*cking sucks to do 5 D2Ds whilst your neighbour on a different Postcode gets sod all.
There is no fairness in this scenario across the UK and yet the CWU think it was a victory. :evil/mad
