A WIDOWER is running a charity race in memory of his wife by carrying a life-sized cardboard cut-out of her round the course.
Plymstock mother-of-three Sue Gill, who was in her forties, died of bowel cancer in July this year.
City postman Jerry Gill is taking part in Cancer Research's Plymouth Run 10k tomorrow to raise money to help other people with the disease.
He will be taking a 5ft 7in-tall photograph of Sue with him.
He said: "My beautiful wife battled the disease bravely but unfortunately the cancer spread and she passed away at St Luke's in July.
"She was a lovely person, an inspirational woman.
"We were married for 24 years. I miss her very much. I will always love her.
"But Sue is like the wind. I can't see her, but I can feel her all around me.
"I hope by doing this run on Sunday, any funds raised will hopefully help towards finding a cure against cancer.
"The cut-out looks very realistic, I cried when I first saw it. I will carry around the course with me. It's nice to know Sue's there with me."
Sue underwent surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer at Christmas, but the cancer spread to her lungs and liver.
Jerry had previously raised £2,000 for Plymstock cancer patient Stephanie Chouette, who was on his postal round through a sponsored cycle ride and other events.
Stephanie died in November last year following a six-year battle against the disease.
Jerry will be among more than 1,500 runners taking part in Plymouth's Run 10k tomorrow.
The race starts in the city centre at 11am and will take in a route through Central Park.
It is one of 20 fund-raising events taking place throughout the UK this autumn. Cancer Research UK is hoping that 50,000 men and women will come together to raise over £5million to help fund the charity's life-saving work.
