My DO will be making up PTers to FT when the Revisions come in. As you stated it "Suits" RM . Most duties have increased in size and more Posties are needed. We've been telling them that for ages :arrrghhh Seems you need a Bloody Computer to tell you everything nowadays!

The guys remaining on PT will also be working Fri Sat & Mon (24 hrs) so they're basically FT for the 3 days. This enables the DIM to allow the remainder the 1 in 4 long weekends they dangled as bait. :Very Happy

On the Bright Side everyone's going to have to resign and the s**t Is Hitting The Fan Big Time. You need to wear a stab vest around here to make sure no-one stabs you in the back, So much foe Solidarity!

Be careful what you agree to -- a three day week for part time hours, as annual leave and redundancy pay are related to how many days you work, not the weekly contracted hours.

But there are pros - as with most things its balance and ultimately a personal choice.

For instance pros would be, more free days, less travelling expense, ability to get a PT job on the days you don't work, if studying it gives you more time to research, recovery time would be less on a 3 x 8 day as opposed to an 5 x 5 day. These of course are balanced by the cons you suggested and probably more.

I would prefer 3 x 8 over 5 x 5.

Either system is better than the 5 x 4 (Delivery only) that they tried to run for a while. That really screwed your week up  Of course that turned into a, "Sorry no one to prep your duty, do you want some overtime.. why don't you come in early and throw off..." Bugger me I'm working Full-Time type of system! :d'oh!

Some guys on 30hr contracts are stepping down to the 8 x 3 system as they have other PT jobs. Due to working later and later all those little DIY & Gardening jobs got really screwed up.

Not me, for several reasons...
I would accrue less annual leave days, as holidays are based on the number fo days worked, not the number of hours per week.
If the worst happened and I was made redundant, again I would receive less money as Statutory Redundancy Pay is based on the number of days worked per week over the previous 12 weeks before termination.
Being in three days only gives me the possiblity of overtime three times in a week, completing both my own heavy round and doing the cut-off of somebody else's.
Given that I currently claim at least 30 hours over five days, I'm almost certainly better off overall as things stand, rather than the hassle of having two jobs.

Of course you do but you need less annual leave....because you work less days. :whistle

Who told you that? :crazy: ......http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... G_10029836" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
How much statutory redundancy pay you will receive depends on:
how long you have worked for your employer
your age
your pay
Anyway we have an employer agreement(MTSF) that supersedes this......at the moment.

If I or anyone else was effectively forced to take on a second part-time job, its quite likely I would still be working at least five days per week, possibly even six. Now lets say I plan to goto Australia for a fortnight, have you any idea how mauch of a nightmare it would be to get simultaneous leave from two companies?
If I was to take on another job that meant I worked at both places on the same day it could easily cause agro if the first job's hours get messed up for whatever reason (running late, perhaps I under-estimated how long my walk would take, yes I could cut-off but then managers could get annoyed if this was a regular thing and I believe Royal Mail needs consultation if taking on additional employment), not to mention regular long hours would very likely have a negative impact on my health.

Personally, if I got forced down this route due to a ballot majority, I would not be a happy shopper. The only thing that might (and its a big might) save me are issues that are on record from my application and interview

It's always an issue if you have two jobs...it doesn't matter if you work 3 days or six you still have the simultaneous leave problem.
That's another issue entirely and a genuine worry for many part-timers working two jobs but i'll be honest with you...i don't think Royal Mail give a s**t about your other job.
Personally, if I got forced down this route due to a ballot majority, I would not be a happy shopper. The only thing that might (and its a big might) save me are issues that are on record from my application and interview
I wouldn't be a happy shopper either and i personally don't think that anybody full-time or part-time should be forced onto attendance patterns they don't want or can't do....but unless your "issues" are covered by relevant legislation i wouldn't hold out much hope in that direction.

Why Image If you and your manager need the docket then arrange to work your day offs. At my DO its more difficult to cover a full duty than parts and the manager knows who to go to to ask them to work their day off.

TBT made a good point, my colleague who intends to drop down to a 3 x 8 day week, intends to "Offer his Services for Hire" to the DIM on the days he's not working (if he doesn't have any other little jobs to do. :Applause Mercenary Postmen eh! Perhaps he should try the nearby offices as well. :whistle

On a serious note regardless of patterns: if your office is going to be finishing later it's going to screw up everyone who normaly picks the kids up, and that's got to be a few unhappy campers :mad
