AFTER an up-and-down 12 months Chesham Post Office finally opened in its new home on Friday (October 15).

The new Post Office branch at 77a The Broadway is a few doors down from its last premises on the High Street.

The news is a welcome boost to shoppers following the town centre branch's shock closure last year.

For three months town centre customers were forced to travel to the Greenway Parade branch, causing outrage among the public.

The closure was a result of problems with the property's leasehold. It was reopened in March at the temporary location in the High Street.

The new Post Office has a new, purpose-built counter and a low-level serving counter to help customers and is be closer to the designated parking bays.

Town councillor Justine Fulford, who was instrumental in getting it re-opened, is delighted with how things have worked out.

"The good news is is Jit Mistry and his family are now installed in the new Post Office.

"WH Smith has applied for planning permission to take over the old site and I think it would definitely help bring additional footfall to the High Street."

The stationers put in its planning permission to take over the shop at the end of last month and is hoping for a verdict in late November.
