Royal Mail deliver gobbledy-gook response about Mordiford post office

VILLAGERS looking to save their post office have bemoaned Royal Mail for delivering a “gobbledy- gook” response.

People in Mordiford still have no idea if their branch will be stamped out after getting a letter full of management speak.

Campaigners asked for assurances from Royal Mail after the branch and adjoining shop closed in the summer.

But they only received a vague letter that mentions “temporary closure” and “alternative service”

in the same passage.

Judith Hereford, of Sutton Court, received the letter from the PO national consultation team.

Ivan Baines said the PO could only apologise to those affected by the temporary closure and stated the intention was to keep a Post Office service in Mordiford.

But he added that available options were being investigated and hinted that an outreach service could be used.

“Our priority is to maintain Post Office services to local communities and it is therefore important that any future service is sustainable for the person operating the service, and for Post Office Limited,” reads the letter.

“We must therefore make sure that any future service reflects the numbers and types of customer using the service locally and in situations such as this it may be that we will seek to establish an alternative type of service.”

Mrs Hereford said the branch could be re-opened with immediate effect as the shop has a new tenant.

But the “gobbledy-gook” reply has left her none the wiser, and she is calling on the firm for a straight answer.

“As I see it, they are trying to renege on a service while pretending to understand the concerns of the village,” she said.

“Their attitude is a disgrace and to talk of consultation and a possible alternative service is an insult.”
