Re: Van share ...failed in Abingdon (oxon)
Van sharing cant work.
Inorder for it to work duties in our office will have to be made smaller than they are now which means more hours in.
Management here are refusing to revist the walks that are 4.5 - 5 hours long on test when they should be 3.5 because of this.
Therefore the van sharing cant work as theres not enough hours.
Theyre hell bent on bringing this in by Nov 4th down here and the general feeling is let them get on with it so long as they clear up the mess.
Personally i cant wait...chaos is healthy.

They're supposed to put 2 minutes in for each stop to replenish your bag, 10 stops (which is low) would add another 20 minutes which they wont addstokes11eg wrote:Geographically, in some areas van sharing may work. In most areas in this country it cannot work the way they imagine.and that is the real problem. and I bet a pound to a penny , they have not included in their times, how long it takes to get back and forward to the van for each, 'restock' of mail.Or indeed how much time it takes to keep getting in the van to drive it another few yards.

We've had shared vans for more than two years and it works. We are about to increase the CDVs by another 12 to bring the total to 26.pickaname wrote:Is there anywhere in the country this is working?

I've heard van sharing works on some of the smaller Scottish islands.pickaname wrote:Is there anywhere in the country this is working?

Well it might if they needed more than one van.

Could someone explain the duty structure in terms of rest day covers and vansharing? Do two rdc's together cover the same 5 set walks etc?

I don't think so...this is from the CDV guidelines.derkhead wrote:Could someone explain the duty structure in terms of rest day covers and vansharing? Do two rdc's together cover the same 5 set walks etc?
• Rest days and leave periods should be staggered so that covers and reserves are paired up with regular shared van duty holders, as far as it is practically possible.

Re: Van share ...failed in Abingdon (oxon)
There are problems initially but they will soon be worked out, or there'll be a clear out. Like it or not CDVs are here to stay, because the union and RM have hitched their wagon to it.
If the failure in Abingdon is due to the deliveries being too big, it's not the van sharing that has failed but the planning. There is also the fact that in large urban areas even outside the 1 mile limit there could be problems.

Not really Maisymoo, it is a debate. The concensus is that it is working in some areas, but not in others. There are also very few "Yes" voters on here, and you are also forgetting about the 50,000 that did not bother to vote.maisymoo04 wrote:isnt if funny you have loads of postings on here sayin,VAN SHARING NOT WORKIN,WASTE OF TIME,NO ONE WANTS IT IN ETC.now you have everyone sayin its workin hear.we love it,were gettin more van share duties.tell ye what folks you talk a loud of shite, you were prob the one of the 55000 shithouses who voted YES to it.always remember the ones who voted YES to it its all your fault.![]()
