Hopes of a new Post Office in Shepherd's Bush have been dashed after Swanscombe News decided against a deal.
The newsagent, in Swanscombe Road, had been mooted as a possible home for new counters since the closure of the Post Office in nearby Costcutter just over a year ago.
But owner Dipesh Patel has rejected the chance to take over after being unable to agree terms with Post Office.
Two months ago we reported his fears over the deal and confirmation the deal is now officially dead will come as a blow to residents.
He said at the time: "The Post Office want it to be an open counter but that will have some serious security implications for us.
"They also want us to be open seven days a week but that doesn't suit us."
Post Office insists it hasn't given up hope of finding a new site in the area.
A spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and can assure customers that we will continue to work to find a solution that will provide a Post Office presence to the local community in the area."
In the meantime customers will continue to have to use counters in Shepherd's Bush Green.
