A postman is still off work recovering eight days after he was shot by an air rifle owner who was cautioned by police after handing himself in.
The postman was struck in the back of head by a pellet last Wednesday afternoon while delivering on Cromwell Mount the Clearings Estate, Belle Isle.

And Royal Mail chiefs have lifted a delivery ban imposed on dozens of homes after the shooting incident they dubbed "shocking and reckless."

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Deliveries recommenced on Monday to the 53 addresses affected and our postman is off work recovering from his injuries."

Police say a 57-year-old local man, who voluntarily went to Holbeck Police Station at the weekend, was given a caution for firing a weapon beyond enclosed premises, and assault.

Police say the man had been firing at milk bottles in his garden when one of the pellets missed its target and struck the postman, causing a minor head injury.

Chief Inspector Roger Essell of City and Holbeck Division, said: "The man's actions were careless in nature rather than deliberate and he has fully accepted responsibility for causing the postman's injury.

"He recognises the seriousness of his actions and the potential consequences, and told officers he would give up his rifle and never own an air weapon again."
