A PRIVATE eye says his business is losing money because he gets soggy mail every time it rains.

Andy Green, who runs private investigation firm Invesure Consultancy from his home in Barnton, said his post gets water damaged because mail bags are left unprotected in people’s gardens.

The postmen, who cannot carry all the mail at once, store it in gardens while they do their rounds.

Andy said: “We’ve had three bouts of rain in three weeks and all my work has been ruined.

“I’m at my wits end.”

Andy, a retired policeman, said he has received waterlogged mail on a regular basis since he moved to Townfield Lane six years ago.

“There’s nowhere to store the mail bags in Barnton,” he said.

“They’re just flimsy red bags and they’re sat in people’s gardens and behind sheds – I saw them behind a garden wall eight or nine months ago so I know they do that.

“The postman goes back and forth to the bags and in the meantime, all the post is sat in bags getting saturated.

“It’s not my postman’s fault because he’s trying his best.”

Andy said he now advises his clients to send documents to him in a plastic sleeve to save them from damage.

“This mail isn’t just damp from walking up the drive.

“This is saturated mail that’s been soaked and soaked and soaked,” he said.

He feels that his reputation is being damaged as he cannot present the waterlogged documents to a district judge.

He also has to pay for work to be carried out again.

He said: “It’s costing me a fortune and I have to pay money out again.

“I’m on a budget for each job, so I lose money on it.”

A spokesman from Royal Mail said: “We are aware of a complaint about damaged mail and are investigating.

“We apologise to the customer for any inconvenience.”

Yellow bags or not, it seems to be regular practice to drop bags off in exposed areas. When I say exposed, I mean open areas, where mail is not only susceptible to the elements but to any force, of human or nature, that might wish to impose upon it. Isn't this mail supposed to be safeguarded? Why are bags being dropped off in people's gardens where anyone could wander in and walk off with them? How is this acceptable practice? I know that many a bag drop nowadays is situated in various businesses, this is probably reflective of the derelict nature of pouch boxes (which are not fit for purpose on numerous levels - they can't take enough bags nowadays and are barely useable even in the cases where they can), but at least that's safe to some extent.

Dumping bags at a supposedly 'safe drop' is just another way of cutting corners. If it were up to me all bags should be timed or put in pouch boxes. Its just another way of making time at a cost of perhaps another job being put in.
As for the PI's mail being wet, it may not be just down to bag drops it may be because his stuff is in the last bundle in the pouch and its been raining all morning and we all know that the pouches are about as waterproof of a sponge.

Could it be that his mail is getting wetter than usual because first it is going to Norwich, and then having to be sent all the way back to Northwich where he lives?
Or could it be those pesky gypsies deliberately dragging his mail through puddles. I wouldn't blame them.

But why why why are theses numnut posties letting this kind of stuff go on,and let's not mention the rep huh?

And would they be the 1st to complain if something of theirs got ruined if it was left out to the elements by whoever?

Bear in mind that if the Posties PT on Delivery Only he's got no control of the prep. People in my office rarely use the yellow bags when they're prepping another walk (saves them valuable seconds ) They use these putting their own walk into yellow bags so they don't upset their own customers (who of course give them their Christmas Tips )

Add this to not bothering to put a plastic covered Flat on the rear of a bundle and pulling out MEGA BUNDLES, the size of two telephone directories, (saving more valuable seconds) what ever happened to Wet-Weather Prep?
