Man fighting for life after lorry crashes into Lyme Regis hotel

A MAN is fighting for his life after he was propelled through a hotel window in an accident with a lorry.

He is believed to have lost a leg and suffered multiple serious injuries when a Royal Mail lorry smashed into the front of the building in Lyme Regis.

The man, named locally as Alexander Quan-Yat-Koon and more commonly known as Sandy, was airlifted to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The lorry driver, from Bournemouth, was cut free by fire crews and airlifted to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, with serious injuries.

Father-of-one Mr Quan-Yat-Koon was walking past the Mariners Hotel in Silver Street, at around 9.50am yesterday when the accident happened.

TWO men injured after a lorry crashed into a hotel in Lyme Regis remain in a critical condition in hospital, police said.

Alexander Quan-Yat-Koon of Lyme Regis was thrown through the window of the Mariners Hotel in Silver Street when a Royal Mail lorry smashed into the front of the building last Friday morning.

The accident prompted a major response by the emergency services with police, firefighters, ambulance crews, coastguards and rescue helicopters all sent to the scene.

Police said the lorry collided with a trailer being pulled by a Mitsubishi L200 truck before careering into the hotel.

Father-of-one Mr Quan-Yat-Koon, 38, lost a leg in the accident and suffered multiple serious injuries.

He was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The lorry driver, from Bournemouth, suffered serious injuries. He had to be cut free before being airlifted to Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester.

Hotel worker Les Glover suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
