Mystery surrounds the news that three postmen from the same sorting office in Enfield have committed suicide in the last months. A Royal Mail spokesman said: “we would not comment on such private and tragic matters, but we are of course offering our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the individuals involved.”

The three men Alexander Campbell 51 hanged himself, Derek LakeBerger 45 and Steve Bland 48 all postmen at Enfield North all now deceased.

The London Daily News spoke with postmen in Enfield who were close to the deceased but wanted to remain anonymous and said:

"I can't believe these guys committed suicide over their work, it does not make sense".

Last year the Enfield North sorting office voted to go on strike over pay and changes, and overtime being axed.

I have to agree, Night Tonic comments is decidedly done in a bad taste..

Of course there is a clear link with their suicides and work, the prospect of bullying can upset the balance of the mind, in particular with a massive mortgage, family to look after weighing heavily on the mind, it would only take a bad bullying incident
to tip somebody over the edge, lets hope it doesn't happen to you Mr Tonic.

I have every sympathy for the families and hope once provn of the bullying link, can sue Royal Mail for as much money as they can get to live on for rest of their lives, as the main bread winner is dead.

It would not surprise me if Royal mail decide to give them the run around in getting a widowers/dependents pension

I have been subjected to bullying at work but I have never cracked cos I can be a right awkward stubborn bastärd when I want to be, unfortunately the victims mentioned are not like that, may their souls find some rest

No one knows why they sadly took their lifes, I think we should all avoid any speculation and respect the families of those who died.

Enfield is a close knit office and its very sad this has happened.

RIP to the 3 enfield postman and my condolences to their families , friends and work colleagues.

But does anyone know how many suicides of non Royal Mail employees there have been in Enfield over the last few months ?
