Working through pain
http://www.shieldsgazette.com/letters/W ... 6574846.jp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
ARTHRITIS is the biggest cause of physical disability in the country.
It is a painful disease that affects about 10m people of all ages – it does not exclusively affect older people.
But although arthritis is relatively common, this condition is still widely misunderstood and is often dismissed as just 'aches and pains'.
World Arthritis Day tomorrow will cast its spotlight on employment.
An Arthritis Care survey found that 34 per cent of people with arthritis who are aged 18 to 64 say they struggle to cope at work.
Staying at work can prove particularly challenging for people who are in regular pain, but, with the right support, they can remain in their jobs.
Employers play a key role in improving the working conditions for employees with arthritis.
We are calling for employers to sign up to our Employers' Pledge, which is available to view at arthritiscare.org.uk.
Employers who are already supporting our pledge include BT and the Royal Mail Group. By signing the pledge, employers are committing to make a positive difference for people with arthritis at work.
Our recently-updated Working With Arthritis booklet provides information on how to stay in – or return to – work.
People with arthritis can get their own copy of this booklet by calling our free and confidential helpline on 0808 800 4050, from 10am until 4pm weekdays. They will also be able to discuss any concerns they may have about work.
I urge readers to get in touch for information and support.
Neil Betteridge,
Arthritis Care.

I took a pledge once, to give up the drink...I was so pleased with my fortitude, I got the first round in!

I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

They completely ignore the swelling around the joints though
I know I've been tested for rheumatoid arthritis because everytime I complain to the doctor about my knees he always gets those tests doneThere are over 100 different forms of arthritis[1][2]. The most common form, osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) is a result of trauma to the joint, infection of the joint, or age. Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection.
The major complaint by individuals who have arthritis is joint pain. Pain is often a constant and may be localized to the joint affeted. The pain from arthritis occurs due to inflammation that occurs around the joint, damage to the joint from disease, daily wear and tear of joint, muscle strains caused by forceful movements against stiff, painful joints and fatigue

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

......................the hip one can be bad though because when that goes I have to stop and try to relax the muscles around it to be able to walk properly again.
