CUSTOMERS of the former Walmgate Bar Post Office in York are still waiting to hear whether it will reopen in a nearby convenience store.
A consultation period on plans to run a post office service from One Stop Shop, in Walmgate, closed yesterday, and a Royal Mail spokesman said a decision would be announced in the next few weeks.
The proposal was put forward after nobody applied to take over Walmgate Bar Post Office following the death of its sub postmaster, Brian Fletcher, last November.
If the plans get the go-ahead, a “Post Office local” service will be run by staff at the One Stop Shop for a 12-month trial and will be open seven days a week, from 7am to 10pm.
Customers will be able to access banking, electronic bill and budget payment schemes, and the Post Office Card Account.
They will also be able to post inland letters and parcels, including Signed For and Special Delivery items, as well as international letters and packets to a maximum of 5kg.
