Annual leave allocation

What is the agreed way for annual leave to be allocated? Is it down to individual offices/line manager/shift manager etc. Rumours are growing that Warrington MC are going to allocate on a rolling leave i.e whatever you had this year you will have the next two weeks the following year. This is all very well until you end up with Early May or Sept when no-one will swap. I along with many others are limited to having two weeks in school term time, i dont give a monkeys when i have the other four weeks, but i would expect to be able to take a family break each year in the 6 week school holidays without worrying about getting a swap for the weeks wanted. Was there not something in the way forward that made leave more adaptable.? To use this method of allocation is going backwards and unacceptable in 2010. The leave question has been asked a few times but no answers are forthcoming.

In our office, it goes from the Most SENIOR person down to the lowest...

That is of course IF your form actually goes INTO the pick in the first place - mine has gone missing the past 3 years.... :mfo

Our system if rubbish - I didn't want my leave in school holidays and got most of my leave in school holidays - couldn't swap as all weeks had been over allocated

dont agree on seniority having the first pick, but if leave was done on a everyone select their preferred weeks and any oversubscriptions go to a draw not many problems would arise . I believe it is a big cop out on staffing and managers to take easy option and put onus on the staff to sort out their own leave problems. Could allocating in this unfair way ultimately result in a person not being able to go away with his/her family? Again this should not be happening in 2010. World Class MC etc. etc. blah, blah, blah.

we are in groups of 6 so its a 6 year plan with each year you pick in a set order like year 1 you are pick 1 then the next year pick 4 year after pick 6 and so on


we do it this was as seniority as we are told is against the laws of employment or something like that

The leave thing did change with it,we still use seniority at our place and it works ok.
