POSTMEN are refusing to work overtime in protest after four colleagues were sacked for allegedly insulting a Jersey Post director as she walked past a pub.
Some staff members have refused to work overtime since the weekend and about ten per cent of mail was not delivered on Saturday.
There was further disruption on Monday. Jersey Post said that all deliveries went out as normal yesterday but warned of continuing disruption. The refusal to do overtime came after the postmen were sacked.
Jersey Post managing director Ian Carr said that a formal internal investigation was launched after a complaint was received about an incident five weeks ago.
Mr Carr rejected any suggestions that the sackings were part of a ‘hidden agenda’ by management to continue to ‘get the numbers down’ as part of the voluntary redundancy programme under way at Jersey Post.
He said the disciplinary matter and its outcomes were ‘completely unconnected’ to the company restructuring scheme.
