When I started years ago you did get travel expense money, this was usually told to you on the day. Ask the trainer there for a form to fill out for them.
As for the rolling contract, you'll have to ask them. My mate had a 6 month contract which they extended, giving him the impression that they would be keeping him on all the time to then make him a permanent contract. Then a month before Christmas they said they didn't need him any more but may need him again in the new year. He ended up with no job and money over Christmas then at the end of January they took him on again. On that basis I wouldn't say it is a rolling contract, they can let you go at any time. Your a number and they can't be trusted.
On a happier note hope you enjoy the job more than I do. :pray :dance

You should get your travel expenses paid back. Make a note of mileage/keep any receipts etc. The Manager at your delivery office should be able to fill in a form (very simply) and email it off/submit it to get you paid.

Most of the stuff you're taught on your induction day is out of date and you'll need something to help you stay awake. Aside from that, have a great time :)

hi itslofty, when I started it was also on a 3 month part-time contract - when the 3 months was up, I signed a permanent contract. I think the "3 month" thing is to check out if you're suitable, and can handle the sh1t - soz, I meant pressure  you won't know until you ask.

You will get travel expenses, and paid for the induction day - you should get a free lunch too

My induction was 20 miles away from my DO, although only 10 from my house. Expenses weren't mentioned at all (although I slept through a lot that day so might have missed it).

I did get paid for the day, but no free lunch :(

You're a three-month temp postie? Going into Christmas?

So you'll be a novice at the worst time of the year during one of the biggest periods of upheaval in RM's history?

If you survive you deserve a bloody medal, matey!

Good luck though . Read the 'ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES' thread at the top of this page (if you haven't already). A few simple tips for you straight off. Check your fitting thoroughly before you leave the building. Take your time, take your break, and don't be overwhelmed too much. It's just letters through doors, at the end of the day.

Greetings :Very Happy

I hope all goes well and you like madhouse which is called Royal Mail :Very Happy

Its a tough time to join with the build up to xmas and the coming of colder weather so if you cope with that i recon you will stick it. I think the short term contracts are really to see how people square up to the physical side of the job.

Its a lot of walking these days and is almost becoming like a mini daily workout. Ive seen a lot of people start with the best intentions (perhaps they have never had an outside job) only to keep going sick after just a few weeks as they cannot cope with the walking required . However saying that ive also seen others who have got right into it and are stacking up loads of overtime by the end of 3 months, so you can never tell. :left:

It can get a bit doom and gloom on here and we all love a moan but a lot of us have done many years of service and we are still here (just) so it cant be all that bad :nervous

Good luck
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

full time, in royal mail. loll. your best bet is by getting into driving for sure as those are the worse duties, in our office anyway cause they see us moaning all the time. you will feel like quiting at times, but just keep your head down. once your out the office you are your own boss, but just stick with it. theres plenty of overtime to be had throughout the year and most 20 hour ppl in our office work 40 hours average october to january. good luck.,
