Management told us explicitly that urgent savings had to be made immediately. Failure to make sufficient savings by February would result in staff not being paid as there would be no money to do so as Royal Mail faces insovency.

It was stressed that this was a national brief and not a local issue.

Did anyone else have this brief?

Absolutely Jim,We HAVE made the sacrifices...time and time again...if it isn't enough so be it...I'm tired of jumping through hoops for this company just to see management piss it up against the wall.
Anyone who has ever had the slightest connection with RM will know that the phrase "lions led by donkeys" is very apt.
Let the donkeys take the crap from now.
The lions are too fecking tired to jump through any more fecking hoops.
If I could just be a bit picky for a moment, CCR, that's a bit harsh on donkeys - they might not be known for leadership, but for those in employment, they lead useful productive lives, carrying heavy burdens over long distances and /or rough terrain, for little reward & with minimal complaint if treated well ( sound familiar? )

If anything, managers get more and more simplistic, as well as less and less useful the higher up the chain you - we all know of chicken s**t managers that you ignore and get the job done better without their interference....well up at Tolson's & Higson's level, you need the intelligence and usefulness of the average Entamoeba histolytica, ( for those without wikipedia, that is the wee single celled beastie that causes ameobic dysentry - and as RM has allegedly s**t money like water over the last few years, it seems quite apt. )

Ah yes, the old truism, of tell a lie often enough and people will believe it, so make sure you start with a big lie. I'm sure if RM was to go to the wall, we'd also hear a variation of "To the last man, to the last bullet!", and I'd bet my week's wages, they also love "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...unless you think the few means the couple of dozen executives earning hundreds of thousands a year, and the many, means all of those getting by on less than the national average wage or stuck on PT hrs - that would be the exception that proves the rule, honest!!"

Lions led by Entamoeba histolytica.

It does have a certain ring to it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If RM was gonna be bankrupt by feb then there is not really much we can do

if the let off of fines by postcomm and the d2d money now pouring in to RM is not enough to keep it afloat then we are talking major mismanagement on a huge scale that will not be stopped by making more 'savings' at ground level

it won't make a bit of difference none

if we go bankrupt we do there is not one damn thing we as posties can do about it so all the scaremongering in the world doesn't mean a thing

if we are fcuked we are fcuked and that is the end of it

just remember that means EVERYONE in RM not just us

If we get this talk I will be putting the question back to management ok so what savings are the management team making, and their management team, and theirs etc etc

cos if there is no change in them then there is no point us making savings is there

so all the doom and gloom merchants and the soothsayers take note

we cannot make any more savings we are at breaking point here down at the bottom - but if we go so do you

Come on lads and lassies lets not let a good company flop - lets all dig deep and have a collection for RM - we could call it The Floatation Fund.........and looking on the bright side, if it still manages to keep afloat under its own steam, we can use the money to buy shares. :cuppa

I don't think it will happens as Government wouldn't like to be the government that allow Royal Mail to be bankrupted. It will be written in history.

I think this is just a weak attempt from management to try make us weaker and accept those changes and cut without objection.

If this happens the government will face

massive reduncancy pay out to 125,000 people and say 5 grand on average that is about 650 millions pounds
lot of dole money to pay out at say 250 pounds a months for 100,000 people that will be 25 millions pounds a month
lost of earnings from tax say 50 millions pounds a month
lot of money spend on retraining postmen for other jobs and education.

All that can cost the government about a billion pounds and confidence in economy and recovery economy will hard. A massive headache for businesses as there is so many letters, junk mails and parcel need delivery.

You might well think there is more chance of Scotland winning World Cup 2018 beating San Marino in the Final.

The managers overtime has been taken off the Resourse Control System,(RCS)
The managers petrol and travel money has now ceased
A line manager now covers the DOM for free

Good, bad or indifferent the CWU have a legally signed off agreement,(ACAS),the CMA do not. So what happens? THEY tell us to take the savings from OUR end!
There are loads of offices with loads of overtime, because THEY won't do a walk. That day is coming...watch this space.....that is why they are panicking.....

Except that if Royal Mail was bankrupted there would be certain firms willing to pick up the pieces and give staff that wanted a job a new contract and the minimum wage. Perhaps that's the plan.

Spoke to a couple of managers down my way in London, they haven't heard nothing,no emails,no ops flashes ect, things are normal.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
