Ah ah. No Plymouth has Ilsms too plus bags of room I think. Exeter is very cramped. Ok the airport is there but to get down to Penzance would take ages as the M5 doesn't go that way. Plus oh dear me, the Scily Isles. Oh so complicated

No they have the Scilly Isles sorted for when we're privatised. They will get their mail delivered by postman pat in his new helicopter. I can't wait to get mine. haha.

I did all of this crap that is going on when I studied A level geography 25 years ago.
Any business that is in dire straits does the following;
1 Centralise:..... close & merge facilities.
2 Half the workforce........(PT & Agency working on demand, if any).
3 Outsource....Vehicles, cut the fleet and hire replacements on day to day contract hire.
4 Sell assets....biggest being land on prime industiral sites...eg. mail centers.

Lets face it, if this is happening now, one of two things are happening,
1 We are in the s**t big time or,
2 Some one high up wants the people to believe this crap to get a more favourable share price when we are sold on the stock market.
'Some one will get rich from from this. You can bet it WON'T BE ANY OF US!'.

In another thread a while back it was mentioned that PO MC can't handle the double-deck artics, that goes against it as probably all the artic trailers will be double decker ones eventually

As long as PO has some docking bays then it is not a big job to convert these to DD spec. They did this with about 4 of the 9 bays at Crewe approx 5yrs ago when the 75york trailers first came in. Just requires mods to the 'shroud' around the dock to give extra headroom, and different bump stops that allow for the upward and downward movement of the trailer. (they raise and lower the suspension to get the dock leveller at a better angle depending which deck is being loaded)

when I worked at PO mail centre it had a hefty valuation on it but that was a few years back. Doubt PO would close due to its multi role - and processes IOW mail. That cant go to SO....

How many DOs are there on the IOW? PO MCs outward mail could easily be processed by another MC (anyone know how much spare capacity SO MC has for processing extra outward mail. Stuff for the IOW could just as easily be sent via Lymington. One possibility is that Dorset Mail Centre takes over all SP code and the most westerly SO areas, SO MC takes over the western half of the PO area and whichever mail centre is next to PO to the east (think it's Gatwick) would go there.

where have you heard this, Patrick ? Exeter is at this moment installing the new iLSM and CSS's and while this does not mean that Exeter is safe , why would RM bother ? i know they have staffing problems and some days alledgedly they dont clear .

I heard Truro,Exeter, Dorset and Portsmouth will go, Only Plymouth, Southampton, and Bristol will stay. Anouncement will be made in November.
Information was second hand, so hope there is more to the story, as I work in Dorset!

I think Portsmouth will probably close in any case being on multiple floors and probably having no room for expansion and has issues with double-decker arctics been able to access it, with the way RM seem to be going towards super-MCs, my guess is possibly Truro, Plymouth and Exeter into one new super MC and Dorset, Southampton and Portsmouth into another super MC.

Anyone who works at SO MC, what's the cut off time for planes to land or take off before the airport closes for the night?
