You're not supposed to.
Leave the other half hour for somebody who has the time....like a manager.
Yes well thats exactly what i do, what i mean is - why design a workplan in the first place if it's going to be unmeanagable?
Cos RM massage the figures to suit them and no one else, its false economy and just a game, so play along and cut off, its the way forward and modern thing to do!

fishtank wrote:No...i like the word "stupid"...it sums them up for me.

stu·pid (stpd, sty-)
adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est
1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
4. Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
5. Pointless; worthless:

Yep...that's the ones.
Bugger, my dictionary must be crap as that is all the definitions under "Manager"in mine.

You see, they come from the world where they're providing a service, not working for a business. The problem is these are the people who teach the newbies who become the next veterans who in turn teach the newbies and so on and so forth. It's easy to think, when you come into an office as a temp, that 'starting early' is the in thing and that it's not only perfectly acceptable but expected of you. And if you fall into that culture, then what exactly can you do if you know nothing else?

You give them too much credit taurus.
Starting early has nothing to do with "service" or being "in love" with the job...it's all about chasing time.
Before J&F no-one....not one single person started early in my office...so it isn't a throwback to some bygone age...it's stupidity and selfishness.
But if you still end up working five hours, you haven't chased any time and therefore haven't gained any. I know for a fact that most people who start early end up, in factual terms, working their full hours. Personally, I think my whole office is selfish, especially the drivers who bully you into getting in earlier so your bags are ready for them to leave at 9am. I would love to start on my start time every day, but the whole office is taking the piss almost all the time. They're an hour ahead of their time and it's pressuring the other guys into catching up with them.

..because there are enough arseholes in this business who will come in early, skip their meal relief and make the unmanageable...manageable.
The work plan isn't designed to work by itself....it's designed to allow for stupid people to make it work.
your right fishtank in our office we have fts starting 45mins early everyday to get there mail in and prep a bag carriers duty and do lapseing , then stand there moaning about the job idiots isnt the word for them.

What is right of way?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Bang on!

People who come in early do so for their own selfish needs.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

When J&F was still around loads more people in my office came in early than currently do so I dunno what your talking about there. Once J&F stopped most people started coming in at the correct time not everyone but most people. Some people did use to go out an do an early bag or 2 at around 7 so there was a good reason to come in early back then as you could get a good chunk of your delivery done.
