Re: getting ripped off again
I could be wrong but as far as I am aware if you are on 25 hours a week then you will have to work OT up to the new 39 hour week before the enhanced overtime rate is payable to you. In effect therefore, if you work your day off and don't do any other OT, you will only be be those OT hours at the normal hourly rate and not the OT rate., And yes I think its a rip off too!NewPostieUK wrote:It's exactly the same rate as everyone gets, isn't it? As far as I know, everyone gets the same rate up to 40 hrs, with the exception of the London weighting. Please explain if I'm wrong.zoo wrote:That 1.45 hour post is a terrible deal for half a walk that's paper boy doh that is.

It's 6 hours ovetime for a walk in my office. Mind you the overtimers leave stuff out forcing the next days worker to clean up the mess, throw up walks while we are all doing sorting and pretty much finish before everybody else. Find it hard to feel any sympathy for overtimers really
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

You should refuse to lapse or demand you wait for it,it is willful delay. And it is being done in the name of savings.Sherpas Rule wrote:We have a missort run but on lapsing days we don't have to wait for it. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

here in watford 5 hour duties are only inplemented on a tuesday, walk is supposed to be prepped by other members of staff who do this instead of sorting..every other day of the week you are paid the full duty time.....for now.

Re: getting ripped off again
We are six hours at the moment...
About to be told it's going down to five.
The managers are begging us to take half a round out for three hours now.
They are in for a shock when they ask us to do it for two and a half.

Apparently If a manager sanctions It ,It`s called controlled carry-over. You leave It In and you`ll be sacked for willful delay.POSTMAN wrote:You should refuse to lapse or demand you wait for it,it is willful delay. And it is being done in the name of savings.Sherpas Rule wrote:We have a missort run but on lapsing days we don't have to wait for it. Re: getting ripped off again
why do it then?
if your office is desperate enough you'll get what you want!!!
i don't believe in ot in my opinion you are doing someone out of a job. if your office needs people to come in on their day off then it shows that they need more staff
if more people stopped working their days off maybe office cuts would be less severe (less greed and a bit of self sacrifice might be better for all)

Re: getting ripped off again
Its not about being ripped off but working the hours your paid for...putting that aside for one moment, the last office i was in reduced the overtime from 3hrs to 2hrs, and were really struggling that day for people to do O/T.
Everyone refused to do any overtime untill they changed it back to the normal 3hrs (for half a shift btw)...dom was on the phone to his boss (area manager) explaining the situation and within an hour the hours were reinstated. Now if the office never stuck together, if would of been a different story. If you need the dosh do it...if you want the hours reinstated then you'll have to get support from your office.

Sorry but I don't understand...do you have 6 hour walks? Why would it take three hours to do half a walk?26 may 1999 wrote: The managers are begging us to take half a round out for three hours now.

What he is saying is that because of cut backs and people refusing over time, the managers at is office are offering 3 hours pay for 1/2 a walk. In other words they are paying more than it will take to try and get it done. Supply & Demand
...... and if anyone says well it only takes so long that's all they should pay you. Thats fine as long as you are willing to accept that offer, if not you can refuse and they have to find someone else to do it. Usually they don't so incentives are offered.

EH?! Is that legal? He works 1.45 and gets paid three. Thats double time. I get my standard rate, I don't even get time and a half. I get paid one hour of I work one hour.
Stuff that, I'm not working any more.

Yes it is legal we've been down that path before.NewPostieUK wrote:EH?! Is that legal? He works 1.45 and gets paid three. Thats double time. I get my standard rate, I don't even get time and a half. I get paid one hour of I work one hour.

He only gets paid the extra on the overtime he does not on his own duty.
As all overtime is voluntary if they wont pay you enough don't do it ultimately as with most things its your choice.
If the "market" can operate on a Supply and Demand why can't the people who do the work not enjoy this perk.

Re: getting ripped off again
The way this company is run is criminal.
Most people in my office go over due to lapsing (amongst other things) so lapsing is being paid for with overtime. I suppose with overtime rate being no different to normal rate, it doesn't matter. Thing is a load of work would be saved if the person whose walk is being lapsed just did it. He's still getting paid, so lapsing is actually costing money, not saving it, but thats another story.
