Romec invests £400K in laser cutter at it's Longbenton fabrication facility

Facilities management company Romec has invested £400,000 in a state of the art laser cutter at its Longbenton plant as its looks to further its expertise in the manufacture of Automation & postal equipment/ bespoke sheet metal components, this machine continues the ongoing investment in leading technology and first class customer service.

The Trumpf TruLaser 3530 is, not only, very green in terms of energy consumption but is more efficient due to having a rapid cutting area that maximises the rate it can slice through a defined area.

It also has automatic sheet loading and pallet exchange so that while one sheet is in the machine being cut, the previous one has been extracted and can be unloaded and new one put in its place to allow continuous working.

Romec’s Director of Manufacturing, Paul Carr, said: “We are a technology-enabled company and this new machine will allow us to offer a far more competitive and efficient service.

“The TruLaser 3530 is quicker, offers a bigger range, is more productive, and can be left to work and shut down unmanned at end of a shift giving a semi lights-out capability with little risk.

“We are investing in technology and in the training our people so we can improve our service and performance, but we are also committed to growing the business and the TruLaser is just one part of that jigsaw.”

Romec’s manufacturing division offers a wide range of high quality facilities for the engineering, materials handling and postal industries.

The company was founded in 1989 by Royal Mail to look after its estate of 2,500 buildings, and in 2002 Balfour Beatty Workplace took a 49 per cent share in the company.

Its 2008 turnover was in excess of £199m, and it is now one of the UK’s largest FM companies, directly employing 4,300 people.

Might help them to get their tenders in on time.I notice they are 49% private sector, I wonder how this has affected their wages and conditions.
