Civilisation would collapse without sewers - doesn't mean they're anything other than sh*t and p*ss .

You should at least have a list/rota of reserves with what their days off have been lately then you can gauge who is next for a sat off, regardless of seniority.
Oh and if you cover 'Bob's' duty next week you have HIS day off not what management want you to have off re a tuesday.
There is nothing 'set in stone' with the above,it's just common sense and in the interest of fairness.
Reserves duties where there is not even a try to get them a sat off is discrimination surely.
Regarding Bobys duty,at my place at least, our reserves at times pick a duty for the day off and not because it's a gooden.
Managers know better than to try the tues off thing as we'll tell them bollox.

This all boils down to reps and duty holders who don't give a f**k.

You're all being mugged over by management, your reps and your office.
Harsh i know but that's the way it is.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Actually reserves are the ones with the most knowledge. Not like the "do the same round day in and out" brigade. In actual fact I have never known a person with their own round do anything else when they work their day off. They bitch and moan like spoilt children if they have to do anything else. Boo hoo, but....but... I don't know that delivery...... Sob sob......

Says it all really, most just could not hack it! :cool

lapsing is funny as fleck as well! You can hear the wailing from the next town!

Dwainedibbly,

Are you aware of the Individual Grievance Procedure?

It is suitable to use if you feel you have been discriminated against, and you obviously feel aggrieved.

"I feel that I have been treated unfairly because I have not been given my fair share of Saturdays off. Please resolve this by ensuring that I get my fair share from now on."

Fill out a Stage 1 grievance form and hand it to your line manager. He has 5 working days to give you a written reply. If this does not resolve your grievance, you can raise a Stage 2 with your 2nd line manager.

Good luck.

As you feel you are a higher quality of postman that the average reserve, I expect you will be asking your DOM to remove you from your duty and return you to the reserve list, so you can do your bit to raise the collective quality of reserves in your office...no? Thought not...hmmm, would you suggest to your DOM that he puts reserves on only half a dozen duties each ( preferably each one for a minimum of a week at a time )? So while not being as strong as a duty holder, they can get firm knowledge of the walks they have to cover...obviously "operational needs" will rear it's head from time to time, but if he minimises it ( I know about 12 duties in 4 years, and I know 10 of them well enough to get thrown on them at a moment's notice without having a major hissy fit - but that's down to spending weeks at a time on them when I first done them, or spending a week on them and then going back on them within a few weeks, while it was still fresh in my mind )

If you can't get your DOM to do that ( or you don't have the balls to ask ), then do the only other constructive thing you can do on this thread & STFU! :silenced

And Pat? That's a really funny comment from taurus, - maybe I'm paranoid, BUT, the day after he joined, he said he was a newbie in a thread he started, yet his comment drips with the comtempt you might find in a bitter old postman, or a lineo that can't wait for you to get out the door on delivery, so he can get out for home :hmmmm :hmmmm :hmmmm

You could well be right. All I know is that someone who has been a reserve once would not come out with some of the comments posted in this thread. Being a reserve is much, much harder than a regular duty and most posties know it.

Of course, not the bitter and twisted ones :cool

Shocking as it may sound but ALL regular postmen were reserves before they got regular walks. That means ALL regular postman have a knowledge equal to and often exceeding reserves. Being a reserves isn't so hard you guys get away with a lot more than regulars by pleading ignorance every time you stuff up... regulars can't use those excuses or get off sorting because they don't know thier walks.

Boo hoo hoo poor reserves are so hard done by, well wake up you twats we all been there and done that, no one goes straight on to a perminent walk. Take the s**t and grit your teeth then one day you will get your own walks and then only have to put up with half the crap management throws at you!

Til then save ya sob stories and get over yourselves the offices could run with perminent posties and casuals, it couldnt run with reserves and casuals because they'd all run around delivering mail to the wrong houses and spend most of thier time working out how to do as little as possible! :so there :speak to the hand

...and smokerjim why the hell would I go back to being a reserve I done my time thank you very much so why dont you STFU until you can write something a little more realistic?

WE HAVE ALL BEEN RESERVES DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND SMOKERJIM? :speak to the hand

Yeah, probably in the good old days when rounds were shorter, people didnt run around to make time, use their own cars, come in early unpaid and generally the job wasn f****d. Use your head.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Hi,I'm full time,a reserve and have been with RM for 5 and a half years and I have averaged 3 long weekends per year since I started,I have brought it up with my union rep on many occasions and also with the three DOMS that I have worked for.Get the same excuse "operational needs",really bugs me as I usually get a monday, then tuesday the following week, wednesday the following week but than just as I think I'm going to get a saturday/monday my rota gets changed but guess what,I get the monday and the whole cycle starts again.

What a complete w****r you are judy. Way to compare others to your own s**t standards when you were a reserve. You do not know me, other reserves, only your own shambolic skill, so yes.
