And I too think of you as experienced DGPDGP1 wrote:It's a no from me too, losing Saturday (one of the busiest days of the week) would only start the inevitable destruction of the USO - imagine those rural areas only getting a delivery once a week, call me a pessimist but I just think of myself as experienced.
I don't want to appear out of step here but not only should Saturdays go but also the Monday to Friday go everywhere delivery. You have to ask yourself what is affordable, feasible, necessary and more than likely when privatisation takes place.
Can the likes of TNT, DHL et al afford NOT to buy into RM because the hail fellow well met attitude of RM to the DSA prices would be well and truly out of the door when it's sold off - the Regulator, out of the window.....................just like the energy watchdogs. Remember the days when the bloke used to come and read your meter every 3 months without fail or collect money from the coin meter........... well you don't see that now - you get your meter read if your lucky and slot meters have been replaced by card meters. When I worked for the ESI, I couldn't envision things being done any other way - until I put my mind to it, then I began to wonder not what is, but what is necessary to get the job done in a timely and cheap manner.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
A 5 day week,Mon- Fri,would start us on a slipery slope to even more cut backs. There would be a tremendous amount of jobs vanishing from D.O.s.Ideally i would like to see my 8hr. Sat shift reduced to a more friendly 6hrs with the lapsed Sat hrs absorbed Wed - Fri.My vote is a big NO.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
I totally agree with you on this one mate... I'm totally against privitisation but it is inevitable the government are going to plow ahead with it and the union won't have any chance of standing in it's way.the dragon wrote:Voted yes for completely personal reasons, sick and tired of getting home after 2pm on a Sat utterly knackered and asleep on the couch by 9pm..another weekend ruined... I know that some job losses would happen but we have lost over 60,000 in 7 years and more on the agenda as things are going !!! I think the mon-fri week will tip the balance if(when) the CWU hold a ballot. Obviously Im not a fan of privitisation but I am increasingly giving up on any other option, as one way or another it is going to happen
I for one look forward to having saturdays off as im too knackered to take the kids out when im back from work after a 5.30 am early shift, Also when invited out for a meal with friends im either propping up the bar at 9pm, or if it is at their home im falling asleep on their couch.

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
lets remember doing 2 deliveries on a sat for real ot rates and you were still finished early
no mailsort sat and rm made millions .
now cant even get finished to get to or be involved with footie after 25 years season tckt holder
so you see my reason for getting rid of sat.god i can even rem shops not open on a sunday
please note govmt not as much trouble then better community etc everything too easily accessable now
i want my sat afternoon back thank you as its too short a weekend and bang your back in office asap thats why were all stressed and fed up

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
If Saturday deliveries were axed you'd still have all the business mail that would need delivering but you'd only have 5 days in which to do it so delivery spans would probably have to increase, perhaps 5-6 hours, with the time that you would finish, they could possibly bolt a collection onto the end of everyone's duty at DOs

Re: POLL:Get rid of Saturday deliveries?
The way i look at it maybe there will be 20% job losses if saturdays go ie no floating duty on delivery but the way things are going at the moment on delivery im sure you would get 50% of posties possibly more wanting voluntary redundancy if it was offered.
