Re: Coming in early.
Until everyone stops though, it's not going to matter. If one person carries on stealing a minute wherever they can, the effect is broadly the same as everyone doing it, because somebody will notice and make presumptions about everybody else based on extrapolating that one piece of (perhaps) isolated evidence. I work in an office where everyone fights for every minute, and having been dropped into that atmosphere, there's not a lot of point (in my mind) of going against the tide. At my "start time" the drivers are already out of the door with the bags and packets, whilst half the office are bagged up and ready to go with their (own) cars warming up outside. Doing the job properly is basically pointless when everyone else couldn't care less. The downside to this is that they've created a working environment that effectively encourages coming in early, it almost makes people dependent on it. Naturally, there is a push at the minute for us to lapse. I can understand it entirely with the way things are and it amazes me that anyone with a pair of eyes and a brain can be in the slightest bit surprised by this. I doubt there is an office in the country that is so keen to kill itself as ours sometimes (always) seems to be. There are about two people in our office who do the job properly, and it's no coincidence in my mind that they've got the only driver in the office who does the job properly as well.

Re: Coming in early.
Who's problem is it then, the managers,or perhaps the customers who are waiting for said packets?brandydoguk wrote:No, it's not the whole office. As there are duties lapsed every day drivers are shuttling people out to their walks two or three times so it seems to work fine, always a van available to jump on for conveyancing and to drop off bags. Mind you the drivers often end up not having time to finish their packets but that's not our problem. Is that the whole office then, are there any that don't come in early, how does it work with dropping/pouching out and the like.
Never mind though, you get your earlier finish, can't figure out here who the c***s are here, your mob for doing it,or the managers for letting it happen,oh,or the customers waiting for their stuff.
Answers on a post card please,we need the revenue.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Coming in early.
people who get in early are killing the job for everyone and the funny thing is they are too stupid to see it, you make excuses I have to do this and have to do that. Well a little birdy has told me once all these revisions come in the royal mail are going to be as UN-FAMILY friendly as they can on a like it or leave basis. So people who enjoy finishing early now by getting in early and killing the job for everyone, I look forward to hearing you all whinge when you have to work your time in future. You are the reasons we have to absorb but telling an early starter this is like banging your head against a brick wall, no matter what you say they just can't get it into their head. The only people who should be starting early should be family friendly agreement people.
If you worked in tescos would you jump on a till half hour early and start serving people for free?

You don't happen to know how much tescos pay per hour do you?coxie wrote:people who get in early are killing the job for everyone and the funny thing is they are too stupid to see it, you make excuses I have to do this and have to do that. If it's minimum wage, then I could try my hand at being a salesman, like maybe in a, uh, haberdasher, or maybe like a, uh, um... a chapeau shop or something. You know, like, "Would you... what size do you wear, sir?" And then you answer me.

Re: Coming in early.
In B&Q you were contractually obliged to work 15 mins for nothing if they required you to. If for example, at the end of your shift, there was still a massive queue, you were expected to stay on and help clear the queue. That used to be above minimum wage but I don't think it's far off it now.coxie wrote:people who get in early are killing the job for everyone and the funny thing is they are too stupid to see it, you make excuses I have to do this and have to do that. It doesn't say you can start 30 mins early to finish 30 mins early on a daily basis.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Pay and Mod 2007 Agreement in Enablers on Page 6 (exact enoughclashcityrocker wrote:Where exactly is this in the agreement?brandydoguk wrote: Don't forget part of the "flexibility" agreement was duty holders may be allowed to flex their hours if manager agrees..)

It doesn't introduce flexi-time into the agreement.

Re: Coming in early.
People who come in early are really only doing it for themselves and deserve to get missorts when they are tied up
and we all should NOT come in early and not prep a single letter till we come off the main sorting, if we stuck to that
management would then realize that some of the walks are not achievable in the time as most would go over.
Also why give them half and hour or more a day are you completely crazy? that's at least a minimum of 2 and
a half hours a week for nothing...beggars belief !! I used to come in early say half an hour a long time ago but
when tied up you could sometimes be waiting in that time to get lifted out in the van...sorry not playing that game again.

Ok then Jimmy last one cause I don't want to get into a slanging match with you.
If he leaves the office at 9 and finishes at 11 as you state in previous post that's a 2 hour del including trav time.
Get your point about people coming in early we all have them but maybe you are are giving this chap a little overcooked bum rap.

Re: Coming in early.
a) How many people that start early actually work to their time I wonder?
b) How many people who start bang on time work over regularly and don't claim?
In my office the answer to a) Is none that I know of, and the answer to b) Is at least half a dozen.
If anyone starts early AND works to their time then they're retarded, but it doesn't happen in my office.
