There have been many wars fought in the name of Christianity.
Other than the Crusades, name some then? :hmmmm
Thirty Years War - Not ours but in the 17th century, the German states, Scandinavia and Poland.
Taiping Rebellion - a civil war in which approx 20,000,000 died.
French Wars of Religion from 1562 - 1598

I accept that these wars were fought in the name of religion, but were more probably for political or mercantile reasons, but the so were most of the Crusades. Even the Spanish Armada attempt at invasion was blessed by the Pope and was viewed by Catholics as a Holy War against the heretic Protestants. Thats the problem most of the European leaders from the middle ages right up Mary&George caused or started wars for political reasons, or just as a land grab, but to get their populations behind it they had to find a reason. Religion was the easiest and therefore the popular choice.

[Are 2 Centuries of wars not enough of an example for you?
Then there was Emperor Constentine's victory in 312.
There are of course more.
Which ones?

What about the ongoing attacks on doctors and abortion clinics by the "pro-life" movement?
Aren't these faith based?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

They aren't exactly wars, in any case why do we need an excuse to fight - war is good, it brings employment, production and research and development so although people get killed it trains our armed forces to defend the realm.

It is quite often described as single-issue terrorism.
It is a jihad.
The issuing of the fatwa against Rushdie isn't a war but it has been used here to stereotype Islam.

Do you mean which 2 Centuries of wars?
If so, I was referring to the Crusades. They went on for 200 years, and consisted of several separate wars, fought in the name of the Crusades. If you mean which other wars, that I didn't have time to look up. Then just read Teebs post at the top of this page. There are probably more, if you look for them.

I don't want to look for them, I'm just asking you to justify the generalised "wars and Christianity" statement you made. So far you haven't... :shhhhh

On a slightly different note:
I see Avram Grant and Ben Tal Haim haven't made it to the West Ham game today because of Yom Kippur.
It's not a public holiday is it?
But despite West ham's current crisis it seems the club has maintained a greater level of tolerance and understanding than the useless half-wits at Royal Mail.

And that's exactly the problem with fundamentalists. They fight, torture, etc., in the name of Religion. Despite the fact that certainly in the cases of Christinity and Islam. And most likley, it's the same with other Religions. The true teahings, specifically prohibit that type of beaviour. And it gets the true followers a bad name! :Sick :evil/mad

Just look at what happened with the Spannish Inquisition! :hmmmm

For example: Some people quote this passage from the Bible, to justify aggression: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". But that's totally out of context. As it's actually part of a section RESTRICTING punishments, so that they're in proportion to the crime. Rather than killing offenders for the slightest thing! You see how easy it is for people to misquote Religious teahings? :hmmmm

Yom Kippur is the most sacred and solemn day in the Jewish calendar.

* It means Day of Atonement
* It's a day to reflect on the past year and ask God's forgiveness for any sins
* Jewish people fast for 25 hours

Perhaps they are including "West Hams current crises" in their list of sins. :Very Happy :Very Happy

Well let me spell it out for you then:
Someone wants to start a war, victimise a section of the population, or even an entire Country. They need a good reason, so that they an get enough followers to fight for/with them. So they misquote the Bible (in the case of Christianity), and convince their followers, and as many more people as possible. That they'll be fighting for God, as it says so in the (rather edited version of) Bible, that they're using. Large numbers fall for it, and you have a Holy War. Myself and Teebs have provided you with several examples of this happening throughout history. And there are more out there, for anyone who really needs any more examples.

Thankfuly, Christians don't tend to fall for that b**l S**t anymore. Although there are still some Christianity based Cults around the World, where they sadly, do still fall for it. But they're a minority, and don't stand much chance of getting large numbers to follow them. Sadly, there are other faiths where people are still fooled by these charlatans. Not because they're any less inteligent. But because here's so much propoganda out there, backing up the fundantaliss. :hmmmm

Now there's a quote, from a sketch which gave the Spannish Inquisition the riddicule it deserves. It was a shameful time in the history of Christanity!
