I think those at my MC who weren't allowed to take a day's AL, would have been more than
willing to take a days unpaid leave, if they had been allowed to.

Sad day that we have to pander to a foreign religion they took the job at royal fail , they new full well the hours of attendence , they also knew that jollys as a result of some religious festival should not and would not be catered for ...just why have we become a nation of people that jump when the muslim council of britain speaks , there's a need i think to redress the situation
i belive that some offices have had 'special holes in the floor ' put in for them to relive themselves with prayer rooms set up such is the need to be seen as politicaly correct

yes you are right but apart from bank holidays we don't get special leave or expect any special privilages for any of the other christian festivals do we ? didn't royal fail make us have a day off for good friday ?

the main Christian Holy Days are Easter and Christmas Day - which is not actually Christ's birthday, but the early
Christian Church adopted the pagan mid-winter festival day to celebrate it.
Christ's actual birthday was probably in September or October, and three years earlier than was decided
by the Church.
We do get Bank Holidays for both the main Christian Holy Days.
And these guys aren't asking for Eid to be a general holiday, just that they be allowed to take one of their
AL days on the most holy day of their faith. I wouldn't have thought that was too much to ask.

The fact that one of the largest asian communities is in Bradford,whose mail centre staff have transferred to Leeds due to it's closure is not mentioned.
What's interesting is this must of cropped up every year in Bradford,and it's never been a problem before,it's as much to do with planning,solution and compromise,and of course Royal mail don't like that.
i'm staggered by the local branches(union)insistance that it's "a clear case of discrimination"
Royal mail have simply said,they cannot accomodate the leave(nothing to do with religious beliefs)
If staff at the Leeds mail centre have booked their leave,then it should of course be honoured,however if staff from Bradford transfer in,and haven't booked the leave,but just expect royal mail to know they'll need that day off because 'that's whats always happened' it's hardly discriminatory.
Hopefully someone who works there can clear it up for us?

Not in the Bethlehem Times but there was an article in the Guardian a couple of years ago about how some astronomers
reckoned that the star, that the three wise men/kings followed, was probably an alignment of planets, which they worked
out took place about September-October 3 BC.
December 25 was adopted by the early Christian Church in about 4 AD.

Staff have not transfered over to Leeds as Yet...
