No outcome has been announced yet of the above meeting, the union objected to RM's proposal of involving deliveries in the mail centre closures, meeting closed and i guess both parties retreated to their base's to re-read the 2010 agreement and seek advice, meanwhile the gagging order still seems to be in forcedisheartened wrote:Teams made up of union officials from Hemel,Stevenage and Watford made their alternitive presentations as to why their mail centers should stay as they are,i believe this Tuesday 7th Sep will see the union go to London to hear Royal Mails plans for the future of said mail centers.
Will the union still be gagged under the no tell clause paper they signed earlier this year or will the workers actually be able to know their future?

Re: mail centre closures list out september/october time ?
So am i to assume both sides are still in talks about weather or not deliveries will be moved as well as the mail centre's,rumours about delivery offices with SG post codes moving in to the Stevenage mail centre when that moves to Hemel, some of the HP post code delivery offices have also been rumoured for the chop and the existing mail center in Watford is supposed to be earmarked to become a"Super Delivery Office" taking in Kings Langley,Bushey,Ricky and even some HA post code delivery offices.disheartened wrote:No outcome has been announced yet of the above meeting, the union objected to RM's proposal of involving deliveries in the mail centre closures, meeting closed and i guess both parties retreated to their base's to re-read the 2010 agreement and seek advice, meanwhile the gagging order still seems to be in forcedisheartened wrote:Teams made up of union officials from Hemel,Stevenage and Watford made their alternitive presentations as to why their mail centers should stay as they are,i believe this Tuesday 7th Sep will see the union go to London to hear Royal Mails plans for the future of said mail centers.

The sooner the announcement the better ,its just the uncertainty of who is going to close.
The staff at our MC are getting a bit twitchy (well the senior staff thats left).
Things are moving so fast phasing in with the one pass and the packet strategy nearly in
completion. We are losing staff to VRs ,those that want it .

Myself, and a large chunk of my fellow MC friends from what i've been hearing in the last year. You not telling me your MC is all sweetness and roses, surely? The screw has been turned right up the last 18months or so,and it aint gonna get any better, only holding out for VR/EVR,and theres plenty that i know would bite their hands off.Just where i work,or others in the same boat?
same as it ever was...

Re: mail centre closures list out september/october time ?
I'm wondering if the plans that were announced yesterday for the full privatisation of RM could mean a drastic acceleration of RMs building of super-MCs and the moving of DOs into old MC buildings to make super-DOs

Then again, they might hold off on expensive projects to save money?
When you're selling your house, you clean it up and maybe repaint the living room. You don't put in a pool out back.

Re: mail centre closures list out september/october time ?
So the rumour is that Hemel,Watford and Stevenage mail centres are to merge(who knows when, but it'll be my guess they will have to let the workforce know at sometime)its going to mean processing staff from 3 mail centres all looking for jobs in 1 mail centre,3 in to 1 dont go,ok i know it'll be a fairly big operation at a new mail centre, but any of these new super duper new machines will gobble up the work,so lets say there is a total of 1200 from all 3 existing mail centres and the new mail centre only needs 800 people to run the operation, what happens to the 400 overspill if they dont want vr/evr.Yes....i know you would say they will slung in a delivery office somewhere, they may of chose processing because they can not perform a walk.telegram sam wrote:The sooner the announcement the better ,its just the uncertainty of who is going to close.

Heard Gloucester Mail Centre closing with half work going to Swindon the other to Bristol. Anyone heard the same, or the one about Royal Mail having bought land in Bridgewater, Somerset.

when I worked at PO mail centre it had a hefty valuation on it but that was a few years back. Doubt PO would close due to its multi role - and processes IOW mail. That cant go to SO....

Re: mail centre closures list out september/october time ?
How many DOs are there on the IOW? PO MCs outward mail could easily be processed by another MC (anyone know how much spare capacity SO MC has for processing extra outward mail. Stuff for the IOW could just as easily be sent via Lymington. One possibility is that Dorset Mail Centre takes over all SP code and the most westerly SO areas, SO MC takes over the western half of the PO area and whichever mail centre is next to PO to the east (think it's Gatwick) would go there.fmrPOSTIE wrote:when I worked at PO mail centre it had a hefty valuation on it but that was a few years back. In another thread a while back it was mentioned that PO MC can't handle the double-deck artics, that goes against it as probably all the artic trailers will be double decker ones eventually
